NeoGeo n00b... please help
« on: July 28, 2003, 01:56:39 pm »
I've taken a break from my ever changing cab plans, and have just started playing a bunch of games. :)

However, none of my King of Fighters roms work :(  I'm guessing I'm not doing something correctly.... do I need a different emulator?? I'm trying to run this through MAMEwah with no luck. I've also had no luck with the Metal Slug series. I supposes that they can all just actually be corrupt but I'm suspecting otherwise.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Do you have the bios file, neogeo.zip

Your answer is in the mame FAQ.

I do have the neogeo file in my roms directory. It's about 52kb, is that right?

If this should be in Software, please move it, I was debating between where to put it. Sorry if I made the wrong choice.

you do know that those ames are HUGE don't you?  They take quite a while to load, expecially on slower systems.  I'm just saying, you might not be waiting long enough.

Beware that the BIOS files change with new MAME versions, as well as some game rom files.  My current neogeo.zip is 233kb, so I guess yours is out of date - this would cause the symptoms you're having.  My neogeo games definately work - I played Sengoku 3 last night :)

Ok I guess I have some looking around to do then :) Thanks for the help tho.

And to Howard, yes I do realize how large they are. When I try to load them however, it says  that they are corrupt or missing roms. When that happens, I usually give up waiting :) heh.  Thanks for the thought tho, I probably would not have thought to just let it load if it didnt' say it was corrupt right away.
