Why's that?
Get the message when clicking Politics and Religion. Is it USA only?

You have to request access.   Dark things happen inside P&R.  Don't believe Saint's name...he isn't one.

There's no fun to be found in there, just avoid it.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Yep. I've avoided it because I don't care to know what everyone's views are here. I come here so much just because it's one of the few forums where I don't have to be involved in an argument every day. (Though there have been plenty that aren't P&R related :lol )

One of my first jobs was working in a grocery store... we would always mess with new employees, telling them to go sweep the basement... They'd be running in cricels trying to find who had the keys for access to the basement, and how to get there...
needless to say there wasn't a basement.
It's the first thing I thought of when i was invited to P&R and got the message...
:D

Heh.

-------------

I personally enjoy P&R though it does tend to get acrimonious at times. It is definitely not for everyone. If you enjoy sinking your teeth into a good political or religious debate and can still smile at the end of it, then P&R is a fun place to be. If P&R discussions get your blood boiling you might want to avoid it... I'd like to see more people involved in the forum :)

Hmm . . . I seem to remember a time when there were a lot of people involved in PnR debates here  . . .    ;)

Every time I stray in there thinking 'Maybe I'll engage in some good-natured discussion' I am appalled at what an utter cesspool it is and I leave. blech.

It used to be much much better.

Before there was a PnR forum, those threads were posted in EE, naturally.  They were VERY VERY active, with lots of participation and a great variety of viewpoints.  Although the threads were CLEARLY labeled, though, emotionally unstable people found themselves unable to resist the temptation to click and read and get angry.  Since they were unable to simply not click on the threads on their own, they pleaded to saint to help them help themselves.  He treated them like adults and turned them down over and over and over and over and over.  But they would.  not.  stop.  crying.

And eventually saint caved and created a separate forum for PnR topics.  It was a downgrade, for sure, as many casual observers who would otherwise have popped into a thread and voice their opinion simply didn't see threads anymore because they lacked the interest to go out of their way to a special PnR section.  But it's an arcade message board, and I suppose enough emotionally unstable people were carrying their acrimony from these political threads into the rest of the board.  So this move, while unfortunate, was at least understandable.  And still . . . there was quite a bit of activity in PnR.  Not nearly as good as before, but still there was quite a lot of stimulating debate with many viewpoints.

But these same ---maternal-smurfs--- kept crying.  I ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- you not.  They were actually going out of their way to GO INTO THE DEDICATED PnR SECTION and clicking on political threads, and then crying about being exposed to unpalatable viewpoints and ungentleman-like behavior.  And some way, somehow, they actually managed to convince saint that they simply needed to be protected from themselves to the point of requiring that you personally ask for special permission from an admin to go into that section.  For political discourse.  In America.  I ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- you not.  Like it's pictures of bestiality or S&M or something.  Like it's something to be ashamed of.  I swear to god these people should be required to wear helmets and mittens while surfing the internet.

Anyway, this completely killed PnR.  It basically made fanaticism a prerequisite to entry, which almost completely eradicates any chance of useful debate.  So anymore there are only like five or six fanatics (myself included) who go there.  If you don't have a raging political fire in your belly or a batshit crazy axe to grind you just can't be bothered to actually ask for special permission to get into the exclusive 6-or-so-member club.

Oh well . . . the decision to completely dismantle quality political debate here has probably contributed to my own personal success in life.  As you can see from my post count, there was a time when I couldn't get away from this place.

Judging by your post count in the EE section it seems you take what arcade nerds say about anything very seriously.
