CTRLR File for Vertical Games
« on: March 15, 2010, 09:10:53 pm »
Hello, I have a 3 sided cocktail and want to set up a ctrlr file so that the vertical games automatically rotate and flip screen for 2 players as well as leave the horizontal games alone.  Is this possible?  I read the Wiki on ctrlr files but did not see anything like this.

I think you have to make a vertical.ini with the settings in it.

What settings, and how does MAME know it's there?

It's just like a MAME.INI, except you put only the settings you want to change for the vertical games.

Place it in the INI folder in MAME.

There is nothing in there for cocktail mode on or off... it only does the rotation in the MAME.ini  Is there something that I'm missing?  I would set it for ror 1 and rotate to 0 otherwise I get games that start out to the left when my player one is on the right.  This would work fine, but as I said, there is no option for cocktail mode which has to be enabled in order to flip the screen for player 2.

I think you have to set that in the dip switch settings for each game that supports it (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I can only re-enforce that you are correct.  you have to do all the dip switch setting for cocktail screen flipping mode by hand.  I don't think that is too much of a burden though, you will want to go through and check each game anyway, as some of them do not work properly in cocktail mode.  (ie, even though the screen may flip, player 2 may be unplayable or graphics may be corrupt)

IIRC, I worked through my cocktail machine's list of games in a long afternoon.  it is work, but it's also fun to see them.
