What do you mean "two player"?
Do you mean 2 way?

you know, building a two player control panel is half the fun of getting into a hobby like this... I started out with no wood working skills what so ever (i took computer and music classes instead of woodshop in jr. high) and I built a semi-decent, but very playable two player cp out of some mdf, a finished-shelf board, some cheap arcade buttons and joysticks, and two hacked ps2 controllers...

I'm with the BuildYourOwn Crowd, but if I had to pick would probably do it in the following order:

1 OzStick Ultimate - http://home.iprimus.com.au/IP-PWP03/41/ozstick/prod_joy.html  (Note $259 AU is about $130 US and it uses an I-PAC).

2 - Tie, but probably the X-Arcade, followed by the HotRod.  Both of these are often available on sale or FleaBay for around $100.  X-Arcade has some programmablilty, but can't use Perfect 360's, however, I would probably gut either of these and replace the encoder with a KeyWiz (www.groovygamegear.com) before I had it for very long.

3 - SlickStik - Just my personal opinion, but way overpriced compared to the others.

Thanks everyone!!! and thanks to you tiger-heli, I was not considering the Oz stick, but it looks pretty good too ;D. I know that many people here preffer to build their own cab, cp, etc... but I would like to hear different opinions if anyone had to choose between any of these two player CP? (Your pick between the hotrod, x-arcade, slick stick, and the Oz stick!) ;) Thanks again......

You can do your own research, but the main points are encoder and controls - Here's how it shakes out (no point re-typing this,) see:

http://www.fraggersxtreme.com/arcadepanels/faq.htm#Speaking of commercial versions, can't I build my own stuff cheaper than I can buy a commercial controller?

I also vote for building your own. Not because there is anything wrong with any of the prexisting products, but because of the fact that they all look like fried booty* when attached to a prexisting cabinet (because they don't fit correctly).

Without exception every single cabinet I have ever seen that had a hotrod or Xarcade on it looked bad**. They don't match the cabinets. It is like taking a nice red Ford Mustang and putting a blue hood from a Camaro on it.

* With the exception of the slikstick, which you can design a cabinet around or often nicely fit to a prexisting 4-player cabinet. But if you can build a cabinet, then you can make a control panel yourself.

** If you are reading this and you are one of the people that has a cabinet with an Xarcade or Hotrod on it, yes I have seen your website, and yes your cabinet looked bad. Sorry, but it is the truth.

If you have the money, the slik stiks are nice looking.

If not the x-arcade's a reasonable 2 player stick (although the sticks are kinda close together -- you'll be comfy playing next to the other person) for the price (and has added console connectivity possibilities..)

heh... they DO look stupid on full size cabinets... but the original poster sounded like he wasn't making a cabinet, rather was just interfacing with his desktop PC, if i'm not mistaken...

Wow man, can of worms.
I have an IPAC, X-arcade, and hacked keyboard in box ( what a pain that was )

IMHO  Build.

IPAC is so sweet for mame and other arcade games on the PC.  If you want console games (DC PS/2 others ) you need to either wire diodes and solder PCB per player per console, or buy an X-arcade and take out the PCB and extend the cables (via solder).  The X-arcade as cp on a cab as the two player unit is designed ?!?! well not very pretty and kinda small.

As a stand-alone product - I was quite happy with X-arcade. It was nicer after I switched all the buttons and placed it all in a bigger control panel.
It has evolved nicely.

I gotta go with these guys.  Pick a platform (PC PS/2 DC whatever ) and build a CP.  I would not suggest hacking a keyboard get an IPAC or other keyboard encoder.  If you like PS/2 grab two madcatz pads and get the PCB's out and solder away.  The DC really has a good line-up of arcade games.

That OzStick looks cool.  Nice joys. Can we get those from Ultimarc ?

Layout wise I like 2x4 but not lined up, a curve works better for me - fingers aren't all the same length. Never used a HotRod - they have been around.  SlikStik - never used one but they look rugged and the parts are good. SlikStik has also been introducing new products to market so they must be doing something right.

Have fun,

Not currently.  They are made by a company called Supreme Exim.  You might be able to order them separatly from OzStick.  Might try E-mailing them.

Your best bet is just to e-mail Chris at ozstick@iprimus.com.au and see if he will sell them separately.
