if you are thinking of using emulation sofware to play re-created pins then pinmame is the display. it is used with visual pinball.

i want one to just scroll different messages, not necessarily related to the game being played.

im thinking you want some sort of VFD display. I know some people in the past have used a 10 inch  VFD mounted display to the front of their desktop computers in the bays to scroll hard drive and motherboard temps. they run about 100 bucks. if thats not what your looking for then im not sure.

I think the smaller one for the desktop pc would be what I am looking for, the on that Ginsu posted is close, but too wide.
