Arcade Amp?!?
« on: July 27, 2003, 11:50:08 am »
Ive seen this on ebay for sale, and am very interested. Anyone have one? Does it let you connect car speakers to it? Also, it only has one set of speaker connections (well from the pic). I could modify this, but wanted to know if there was a specific reason to as why there is only one set. thanks

Cancellation magnets?  What are those and where do I buy them?  Would that make it possible to mount speakers near a monitor/tv without the red going to that side?

If you use a car amp don't forget to find some way to power it.

here's where I got mine from (they even send you a bag of microwave popcorn for free ... good stuff ... hehe http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=3&ObjectGroup_ID=571&SO=2 ... I got the 3oz ferrite magnet and attached them in reverse polarity to a pair of Sony Xplod 4" speakers with a 2 part epoxy (good stuff) ... I can bring them within 1-2 inches of the monitor before they start screwing with the picture which is pretty good ... since most speakers are 6 - 8 inches away from the monitor  ;)  I'm no audiophile .. but they still sound great even after adding the bucking magnet.

I'm powering it with a MTX 202 Thunder amp ... it rocks  ;D

I even have the choice of running two 8ohm speakers in bridge mode ( the ones from Happs or the TANG BAND W4-656S 4" SHIELDED DRIVER .. which has the same range as the Sony's and its shielded to boot)

Its a neat setup to say the least  8)

Personally I don't think the car amp solution is justifyable.  I mean who needs 200W in a big hallow cabinet?  Then you have to convert to 12V also.  I've been recommending the very small SA-155 stereo amp.  Its tiny, and produces almost zero heat.  It must be used with a pair of 8ohm speakers (which is what jamma cabinets already use).  You could optionally use car speakers (4ohm or 6ohm) and then put a power resister inline with one of the inputs to bring it up to 8ohms).  Sounds very loud, with plenty of bass using 6" speakers.  The sa-155 usually goes for around $20-$30 on ebay.

i found a really good cheap method for this. i bought boka brand computer speakers with a subwoofer, its the 850watt version, that can accept rca's & speaker wire in the back. the subwoofer is the amp and has volume and bass controls on the front, it can power 4 or 8 ohm speakers and sounds very good with car stereo speakers or the ones that were in the jamma cab. the speaker package runs about 40$ it comes with 2 spekaers that i just use some where else as well. i find them on ebay all the time just make sure you get the 850 watts as i think its the only one with speaker wire and rca's the other lower wattage models are minijacks in and speaker out. i have bought 2 and they run both of my cab perfectly and add a great amount pof bass for music and movies too.
