I find it very strange that I can't access Hyperspin and Emumovies anymore.  Yet I can do this when I use a proxy.  I can still login to my hyperpsin account, but does anyone have any idea why I'm getting the "Server not found" message?

Is the site still running?

Yes,  it is up.

The internet is a series of connections,  much like one might envision plumbing.  For you to connect to any given site,  you might have to switch between several different connections,  each owned by someone different.  So to get to site X you might go...

ISP -> company A -> company C -> X

Another way to think of it is like UPS shipping.  Your package starts in California,  goes to Dallas Texas,  then to Philly,  and finally gets to you in NYC.  But if Philly is snowed in,  then your package sits and waits and doesn't get to you.

So what is happening to you right now,  most likely,  is that the path from you to Hyperspin is crossing the connection from either NTT to Savvis,  or NTT to Sprint,  the internethealthreport.com is reporting that both are having connection issues at the moment.  So you are hitting that and then your request is dieing.

But when you connect to your proxy,  you're not going through those trouble spots,  and your proxy is taking a different route as well,  so it connects.  In a bit,  an hour,  maybe two,  the trouble spots will get ironed out and you'll be back to no problems.

for some reason  I thought It would reroute automatically if that were the case.  Cool, thanks for the info.  You learn a new thing everyday.

If that is the address you are trying to use then it is wrong. All 192.168.x.x addresses are private non-routable addresses.

Weird, I checked this morning and I still can't see the website, I really think that my ISP blocked the site

check out my response on the hs forum from your proxy... wait... i will copy and paste...  :-)

I can not use my internet at home to access BYOAC and I called my ISP and told them. THey tried it from their server and it was fine, which runs off another stream or something, but then the guy went to the "special" room and used the Mediacom gateway and it was the same thing. We did a tracert and sent it to them and they are currently troubleshooting the issue. Call your ISP and tell them you want to talk to tier 2 support.

Why are you typing in the IP address instead of the web address?  That's why the DNS system was invented so that we don't have to remember a ton of meaningless IP addresses.

FWIW, ping shows that hyperspin-fe.com is using 69.10.48.154 currently.  This doesn't really help anything since there is no index page at the root of that server...

I'm not...

I was just  checking norton activity and it said that incoming info from that ip address had been blocked.  I was wondering if Norton blocked the website.

I can't call because the ISP is through my school (I live on fam housing), they would have to call.

Well, either way the IP that you posted earlier is from your own network (or at least not the internet).  As was mentioned above, 192.168.x.x is only usable on private networks.  Also, 172.16.x.x and 10.x.x.x are private ranges.

Call your ISP and tell them you want to talk to tier 2 support.

yeah and you wont get them, best we'll do is fill out a ticket and have our national level look. If you cant hit an address we have you try to ping it from a command prompt, we also check firewall and security settings. Can you ping it or tracert it?
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

best we'll do?  I take it that you work for one of them...  I did get tier too after calling and getting hung up on like 5 times.  Then I realized when they were hanging up, they were actually resetting something on my end, which was killing my vonage connection.  LOL  Yeah, they filled out the ticket and are "working on the problem"  LOL

I do, and I hate it, but theres only so much we're allowed to try. He said hes running norton, so if he called and got me, first thing we do is disable norton, if that doesnt work we bypass any routers, if its still an issue we'd escalate to tier two. End users are not allowed to speak with tier 2 directly, highest an end user can talk is tier 1 or 1.5 (they keep changing our designation) Really though, if he can get online our service works and most techs on our end would refer to OEM/Microsoft. Thats just the way it is.

How do I ping or tracert it?

I'm not sure if it's norton but it doesn't work on my desktop pc either...

I remember that happened to me earlier, so I was accessing the site and ftp from work, and then I think it was blocked at work too (keep in mind that work is also on campus).  I wonder if they just don't want ppl using ftp services to download? It seems suspicious to me that both emumovies and hyperspin were blocked (and I used both for ftp access).

So I figured out that changing my dns to open dsn solved the issue.  Thanks to Shimoda on the Hyperspin board. Now I have to figure out how to do this with filezilla.
