U-HID Keyboard "Power" keycode?
« on: February 28, 2010, 03:14:33 am »
U-HID can be configured to send a "Power" key code on a button press.
I thought this was intended to be the "Standby" button on a keyboard.
However, when I tried it, the keycode does not seem to have any affect on the system.

I know the physical button+switch is working because the secondary (SHIFTed) output function works fine.
(For troubleshooting, I also tried programming the primary output function to something other than "Power" and that works too.)

This is under Windows XP, and I do have the power settings such that the computer normally does respond to both the Standby and the Hibernate keys on the regular keyboard.

1. Does anyone know what the "Power" output code is supposed to do?
2. Is anyone using it?

I mailed Andy once if this (volume keys and power button) was possible, then he said it isn't.

I asked too asked about Media Center buttons a few months ago as well and received a similar response.

However, what I'm asking about is something that is already present in the UHID Configuration Utility.

Don't know about the keycode mapping, but the bios on my mobo has an option to "power on on PS2" which essentially means that if that option is ON, then if there is any activity on the PS2 ports (either mouse or keyboard), the PC comes on.

This worked a treat for me when I had the IPAC4 plugged into the PS2 port, but when I moved it to USB, no more workee.

Oh well, got other ways to turn it on and off now, though.

Microsoft removed support for the power and volume keys on a conventional keyboard device. No idea why they did this.

The only way in which these keys now work is part of a different logical device called a "consumer control" device. The U-HID does not currently support this device but I might look at adding it.

It worked in Windows 98 but cant remember if it did in original non-SP versions of XP.
