Simple project clarifaction...on interfaces
« on: February 23, 2010, 01:30:16 pm »
Before I start...let me say that work and family is kicking my behind...definitely feel like a chicken running with its head cut off...
I'm becoming forgetful on things and I wanted to get this out of the way, so I can print this out and keep it on hand until I start to order everything...

There is two projects that i want to do hopefully before this year is up...

1. I want to build a dedicated 2 player "vs.fighter" cab (MK-SF etc)
2. A dedicated vertical 4-way "classic arcade" cab...( pac-man, DK, etc)

I have two PCs, 2 monitors, 2 keyboard ( in my possesion as i speak)
I have an empty vertical cab (old Mr.Do cab)
The fighter cab, I'm going to use Lusid design (make it look like a MK cab)

With the fighter cab...The CP is going to be strictly a 2 player (2 x 8-way joysticks, 2 x 7 button layout, player 1&2 buttons, Credit buttons will be ran through the coin doors)

The Vert cab...1 x 4-way joystick, one pushbutton, player 1&2 buttons

Ok...now in the past I done and seen keyboard hacks and I must admit, I don't like em...(messy)

In order to properly interface the controls with the PCs...I guess that I will need what is called a I-PAC ( is that correct?)

I'm looking at different sites and I see RandyT has what is called a Key Wiz...(does this provide the same function as a I-Pac?)
http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=76_80&products_id=303

2nd question... would one suffice or would i need more than one? (for each cab?)

I'm just trying to write out a list of supplies...

I-Pac 2 would work fine for both cabs (you'll only need 1 per cab).
