Donkey Kong Jr.
« on: February 10, 2010, 12:10:03 pm »
I'm new to the forums but have been going through the forum for a few weeks now just looking at everyones cabs and different setups.  Which by the way are pretty incredible.  I've looked into building my own cab for a few years but the ol' lady just looks at me like i'm a moron.  Well, I've decided the best way for me to get to attempt this is by getting her an arcade of the only game I have ever heard her talk about.  Donkey Kong Jr.  Well I've found one locally for $400 and was wondering if that is a high or low price.  It works and seems to be in good condition.  It doesn't have the side art on it (not sure if it's suppose to), paint is good, monitor works but is a little faded, and the coin mech. works.  I will more than likely take it apart and throw fresh paint and a monitor in it.  I'm really just wanting to know if the price is right.  Thanks in advance.

$400 seems OK for a working machine that is in decent condition.  You should try recapping the monitor instead of replacing it though.  I paid $36 for an empty DK cab that came with the coin door and both mechs but I spent way more than $400 getting it looking brand new.  It was a really fun restoration project.

I would say that $400 is an ok deal.

Yea, I figured it would be a good one to get my feet wet with.  Just didn't want to over pay.  Recap the monitor?  I looked up monitor repair and decided it sounded pretty dangerous.  I've worked with electric for the past 12 years but never had a risk of something blowing up in my face.  Seems a little risky.  Thanks for the quick replies.

I would say it's not too bad of a price. Not sure where you are at, but you may be able to find someone in your area that can help with a cap kit. I know my DK cocktail (which I paid $400 for and am happy with it) could use one, and I've got a friend who does them fairly cheap (just haven't gotten around to taking it to him). A good place might be to ask on the KLOV forums. Also, be aware that most Nintendo games (including DK Jr) used a different monitor than most other games. The video is inverted, and has a sound amp built in, so you can't just drop in any monitor in as a replacement.
