aimtrak help?
« on: February 10, 2010, 07:56:15 am »
HI,
I must be the only wally on here who can't set the aimtrak up unassisted.
I am confused about the solder points.
I am using a guncon 2, have stripped out some of it but have the aimtrak installed in the black barrel.
I only want to shoot and reload, nothing fancy.
I understand the trigger, aux and 2 coms but am not sure where to solder the trigger on the existing trigger switch.
Its a round button on a square with 4 possible solder points which don't seem to be marked.
Can anyone help me out?
Cheers.

I copied Drakin's setup over on the hyperspin forum.  Here's the link to his setup with pics. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4797&highlight=aimtrak

eventually got everything working, I am not the best solderer in the world.....
I soldered the trigger and another button only.
I can see the cursor moving when I move the gun but if I start the game , for example operation wolf it doesnt move?
I did some searching and it meniotned the tab setting in mame, I think I may have messed it up though.
Could someone post their ini for mame and also the tab settings I need for a 1 gun setup.
Thanks in advance.
Sham.

I haven't tried that game, but I did it for Police Trainer, Duck Hunt, and Hogan's Alley.  Hit tab to get into the game settings.  Delete the x and y axis that you have there.  Hit enter for the x axis and move your gun across, left to right.  It will change the x axis settings. Then hit enter to get into the Y axis and move your gun up and down. Now escape out and you should be able to move your gun around and you will see the cursor moving.  You did the calibration of the aimtrak already though, right?  You hold down the trigger for 5 seconds and then the mouse will move into the corners and you have to point and shoot.  After that, it should work.  I enabled multimouse and keyboard in my mame.

Thats what I tried but wasnt sure?
I press the trigger for 5 seconds, top left and top right click ok
but then the cursor goes to the bottom middle of the screen and keep going up and down?
Nothing I click will stop it.
I am quiting for today as have spent about 10 hours on this today.
Will try again after work tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help.
I am sure its going to be great once I get it working as it seems to be a great product.

If you're getting arrows to the left of your screen and you're shooting in the left corner and then it moves to the right and does the same, that's what it's supposed to. When it moves to the bottom part of the screen, if it's not taking your shooting, you're shooting too far off screen. Move your gun up a little bit to shoot. Once you successfully do the sides and the bottom, it will be calibrated and you can move the gun around.

Your not the only one thats had issues calibrating. I had the same thing happen to me. I just adjusted the LED board by pointing down a bit then re-calibrated.

thanks for the replies guys.
I am sure its only a hiccup and will try adjusting the led's when I get home.
I don't have a permanent position for the led board yet so its not a big deal to change it.
I might try to get it in behind my marquee.
Thanks again.
