balltop u360 questions
« on: February 09, 2010, 04:59:38 pm »
hey guys-

just got my u360 from Andy at ultimarc, and it's fantastic.  couple questions for those of you familiar with this product.

i got the long handle upgrade, but it does not fit in the assembly of washers/etc.  Do i have to drill out the other pieces?

also, the balltop has a seam in it, around the equator.  wasn't expecting that.  is that just how these byoac-used balltops are?

these are just minor, minor things, overall i'm VERY happy with the stick.  feels awesome.

The balltops do have an 'equator' on them.  I think that's just part of the molding process.

The disassembly/reassembly for the long handles should involve no drilling!  I seem to remember some instructions coming with the long handles or something?  I see the following on the ultimarc site:

Long Handles and/or Replacement Spring:
There are two possible methods:
If your stick is not yet fitted to a panel, remove the 4 screws on the front of the faceplate and remove the swivel assembly.
If your stick is already fitted to a panel, remove the PCB by unscrewing the 4 screws.
Lift off the magnet assembly from the end of the shaft. Remove the E-Ring. CARE: we advise to avoid spring-loaded parts being lost, place a cloth over the joystick when removing the E-ring. Swap the shafts and/or springs over and re-assemble.

guys, just as an FYI... they changed parts suppliers and something size wise got changed.

Andy is sending me out new parts ASAP.  Chalk another one up to his great customer service!

I just ran in to the same thing.

I purchased my u360s in late June, from divemaster, and just got the longer handles.  The handles are just a bit wider in diameter and won't fit through the bearing or any of the other parts that are supposed to fit on the shaft.

Hopefully he or Andy can help me out.

Glad I saw this post...I may need two Long Ball handles as well, had both in the basket.  ;)

How are you guys mounting your U360s Bottom or Top?
Im thinking Top would be fine since we can unscrew the PCB from the bottom if there are any issues/repairs...just be a PITA if I had to change out the stick.

Since I had to order a new handle, due to screwing up one of mine  :banghead:, I decided to go bottom mount and get the long handles.

I figured I would save myself the hassle of the extra routing and finding a way to flush mount the screws. Good thing at that, because the vinyl I purchased for an overlay shows every little defect in the finish!

Otherwise, it's just a matter of choice (top or bottom mount).
