Plugging in a gun messes up my custom default.cfg file
« on: February 09, 2010, 01:26:19 pm »
I have a custom cfg file for my control panel so all my games work properly without having to go through the setup of each game and program the buttons.  Everything works great. I recenltly bought the Aimtrak and hooked that up.  That's now working. However, when I plug the gun in, none of my controls work for any games.  It's like it ignores my default.cfg file. I have to program the games in the setup for ther buttons to work. If I unplug the gun and launch a game, my cfg file takes over and all the buttons are programmed.  Does anybody know what I have to do to fix this or why it's happening? It's driving me crazy.

Does the joystick or mouse number change when you remap?  I'll guess the aimtrak is getting a lower number, bumbing the others up one.  (I think the aimtrack is seen as both a mouse and a gamepad.)  Leave it always in and remap (or edit by hand), or only plug it in just before you want to use it and unplug it other wise.

This was my experience...

So I have been having this problem with the Aimtrack guns the Drakin made me for a little while now. They worked flawlessly in the beginning, then I got the panel Jack made me and everything was awesome. I got a new computer HP Athalon Quad Core Win 7 6 Gigs Ram, etc… Everything was great. Then the guns started acting crazy. When we would pause a game, they would come back out of whack after the pause, then had to recalibrate. Then a couple days later, they stopped working. The software wouldn’t even start up, it crashed when calibrating. I could not reassign the gun ids and when I plugged the guns in, my panel stopped working… Unplug them and DELETE THE default.cfg and the panel was back. But plug the guns back in and ALL the buttons were off… Player 1 Start was player 2 Coin and etc… Weird right.

So maybe my usb ports are bad or the guns were bad, so I plugged them into my computer at work and calibrated and they work fine… NOT THE GUNS.  :)
I unplugged my panel at home for the first time and plugged the guns in.. deleted the default.cfg

Now with the CP unplugged, he Ultimarc software comes up IMMEDIATELY, configs and calibrates perfect. I set the gun ids to 3 and 4 upgraded firmware, etc.

Played 15 guns games, configged them all… they work perfect… BOTH GUNS…  :) Wahoooo… Plugged the CP back in, rebooted and everything works great…
Not sure why I didn’t try that in the beginning, but I am not sure why it would matter, but that could be me cause I am a novice at some of the setting and frankly a newbie at this whole thing.

Time Crisis even works on my new computer with hardly any speech lag, but for some reason the cursor on the screen is about 5 inches off of where the SHOT actually goes… not the guns, but I think this may just be the rom… anyway just thought I would introduce everyone here to the problem… lol… and it seems to be fixed for now…

Overall, these guns and Aimtrak work Awesome. I have spoken with Andy about this and no one can seem to recreate the problem, but for now everything works great...

REBEL:  Yes...  the joys changed numbers and since I remapped all the commands to work on the BUTTONS only and not the keyboard, that was my issue.  So I redid them and told mame to use BOTH my START button ( Joy 2 Button 12) AND the 1 on the keyboard.  If you dont do both, you will never be able to access the config.  I told mame to use my BUTTON for TAB instead of the keyboard TAB, therefore i could never get back to the config...
