Crome Tmolding
« on: July 25, 2003, 10:48:11 am »
Its time for my Cab to get some Tmolding and i was thinking about getting some crome tmolding.

Im going with a silver metallic theme for my cab so i think crome would lood awesome.

My only reservation is im afraid that its gonna look cheap. Not like real crome.
Anyone seen crome tmolding in person? How does it look? Any up close pictures?

My secondary choices are light gray and red.

The problem with the chrome T-molding that I have seen is that it loses its shine in spots after a while. Note that the t-molding I have seen do this have been on location in bars, so this may be due to the high volume of people playing the machines... So in-home you may not ever see the t-molding wear like this.

Unlike solid colors, shiny t-molding such as chrome (silver) and gold are only a surface treatement. This means it can be worn off over time. I'm not exactly sure how thick it is, though. That probably depends on the maker.

If you're curious to know what it looks like you can order *free* samples at:

http://www.t-molding.com

I have some samples silver and gold if I can find it. I'll tell you about it if I can find it. Otherwise you can order your own.

By the way, I noticed crazy prices for the stuff on Ebay. Like $5 for a roll. Don't know when the auctions end, but look for both "chrome" and "silver" because both terms are used.

Here ya go ! ;D

BUT I suggest you get black t-molding.
chrome does look good and all but black looks better no matter what the odds are.
Its just how it is.  :-\
Black looks good on any cabinet.  :)

Id totally agree with that Snakeeee but I am leaning towards the crome because of the theme of my cab. Its all silver and has metal accents ;)

If crome looks decent it would definetly be pimp with my theme.

Alan: Thanks for the info.

I've had chrome on my cab for about two years now.  Looks just as nice as the day I put it on.  It only gets wore if people physically handle it a lot. (Like rubbing it, ect)  As nobody should be rubbing against the edges of your cab it should look great indefinately.

Does anyone know if people have been getting this chrome t-molding from different suppliers?

I ask because I've seen chrome t-molding on some games that seems to have a clear pvc or vinyl layer over the chrome foil.  The chrome t-molding on the Sega 18 Wheeler in a local arcade is defintely not a surface treatment because there are some spots on it where the clear coating is peeling off, and the chrome is still intact.

Ahhh, Snaaake, you didn't look too hard...  ;)

Check ePay listings for Golden Tee's, sellers looove to spruce them up with this stuff.  The below linked auction has some pretty good closeups of the t-molding.
