nevermind. I just don't have anything nice to say about Scott and mameroom.com, so I'll just not say anything at all.

Well, I can't say much about mameroom since I haven't used their services, but I'm desiging a control panel through arcadesrfun (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=330402984044&Category=13718&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D1), and Jack is very responsive and answers all of my questions, even the dumb ones.

I'll let you guys know how my experience works out in the end.

@rlehm
your feedback might be based on some bad experiences, but without revealing the background it doesn't come across as fair nor can others learn from it. I would certainly appreciate, if you could back it up by posting a specific review of products or services.

In terms of mameroom all I can say is that Scott answered all my questions very timely. The product was shipped internationally and arrived in great shape  - no issues. A friend of mine had back luck - during shipping the cabinet got damaged. Mameroom replaced it immediately and shipped it again internationally!

I'm not sure what went down with Scott that caused you to have a bad experience. But, I do believe he should be given the benefit of the doubt. He's a longtime member of these boards with a strong record of great customer service and well built products. Almost all of us ( mameroom, mamemarquees, Groovy Game Gear etc.) run our businesses part-time while we hold down the day job.
I know from experience that juggling the logistics of many orders per week is staggering.
Imagine for a moment  if you have 10-20 interested customers every week coupled with 10-20+ current paid customers. Then each one sends you 3 e-mails  during that week. That equals a huge amount of e-mails to answer, not counting the actual logistics of processing orders then building/packing etc.
All this is then added to the normal hectic life that results from the day job and family responsibilites.
Not making any excuses for any real issues you might have with mameroom, but hopefully this helps in understanding why sometimes we might be out of touch for a few days.

Then why do we bother to do this? Money? Yes to some extent but as Ben & Jerry of B&J Ice Cream once said "If it's not fun.....why do it?
I can't speak for the other guys out there but I love building the panels, games! It's something really cool to to take a bunch of black melamine and turn it into a beautiful game or panel!
Jack

I will say that using arcadesrfun would have been much smarter on my part. An ebay auction is covered under paypal. A paypal payment directly to mameroom is not. All of my business will be through ebay and with arcadesrfun from this moment on.

why did I edit my post? because I have noticed a trend here. Say something bad about a common company here and get verbally murdered. I don't feel like looking for a tinfoil hat.

Back when I bought my 4P machine  from Mameroom, my initial panel arrived, damage.  He shipped me a replacement right away, and I didn't have to send back the broken one.  I was really impressed, and continue to reccomend mameroom.

I only purchased the plans for an arcade cabinet from mameroom.com, so obviously the transaction was trouble free. I paid, downloaded, done. Can't vouch for business practices or shipping experiences though, since the only thing I received from them came via packets of data over the internet. On that note, I can say that shipping was lightning fast!  :applaud:

I've dealt with Scott at mameroom and I've had good dealings with him. My only complaint is that it would take him a long time to respond to my questions, sometimes a week. By the time he would respond, (a week later) I would have already thought of a different plan and I would have another question for him.  It would take him another week before he responded to that, and so on. It was extremely annoying. For all I know, he could've been on vacation or had personal matters to take care of at that time, so I give him the benefit of the doubt.

However, after getting frustrated by that, it made me look for somebody else to deal with.  So I went with Jack from ArcadesRfun.  I can't say enough good stuff about my order with Jack. I sent him a question, he responded right away and todl me to call him to talk about what I was looking for. I spoke to him for a long time on the phone about what I wanted. He explained everything to me, he had the patience to answer my newb questions. I even threw a hurdle at him and told him I needed my control panel built quickly because of a party I was having. Turns out he got sick that week and he still pulled through and took care of my order to get it to me in the time he had promised. Amazing. One thing I would point out between the mameroom control panels and ArcadesRfun is that the mameroom one doesn't have a flush trackball, and Jack's does. You can't see the mounting kit at all. There was so much attention to detail in his work, and his customer support is top notch. It can't be beat in my book.

Good to hear arcadesrfun is a  good service.  I've had a similar experience so far.  I get responses super fast and he's really patient with dumb questions.  Right now we're in the design phase and he's going to draw something up for me by this weekend.

Although I do understand that people have a day job... it's still a business and a service that you pay for.. so it's nice to get prompt responses.  I e-mailed mameroom once, and the guy was really nice.  He took about 2 weeks to get back to that e-mail, then one day for the next one. Still, it must be really hard to have two work two jobs and provide customer service on top of that.

Does ArcadesRFun build cabinets?  If so, can they build one like this:
