I remember a long time ago there was some talk about trackballs with red vs green optic boards and think I remember reading something bad about one of those types, so before I buy a 2-1/4" Happ trackball from some guy on Ebay, I wanted to make sure it is not going to be a "bad" one.   Perhaps the green optic boards were the bad thing?  Perhaps the problem with optic boards was with "USB" trackballs only?  I cannot remember and I cannot locate what I remember was the main post for this topic.

Can someone shed some light on what the problems were with the Happ trackball and the optic board color.

I have an opportunity to purchase a brand new arcade (non-USB) 2-1/4" Happ trackball through Ebay and can have my choice of one with green optic boards or red optic boards.  Are there any serial numbers or revision numbers on the optic boards which I should ask for to verify they are the "good" ones?  Which color should I buy (green or red)?

I need to make the purchase soon, so any help would be appreciated.

I think I've read that 48/60 in 1 multiboards don't like the green optic boards trackballs (old). I've also read that some people have gotten green board trackballs to work...
Are you going to be using a trackball/mouse adaptor? The Mikesarcade adaptor has 2 six pin molex connectors for the optic boards FYI.

2-1/4" Happ trackball for $45   I know I am going to buy one of these non-USB trackballs. I just do not know whether to get one with green optic boards or red optic boards.

I feel comfortable doing a mouse hack so buying a non-USB trackball is not really an issue for me.

This is a replacement for my existing cabinet which can only accommodate a 2-1/4" Happ trackball only.

Thanks for the link to that post.  Turns out I asked this question over a year ago, although never got a trackball since the deal feel through.  Anyway, I found a trackball at a reasonable price including shipping once again so turns out I asked the same question.

Anyway, it seems the green or red boards are ok with the arcade style Happ trackballs and the PC style USB trackballs had problems between the green and red boards.

Good luck.  I hope the deal goes through this time.
