Gorf much slower on Mame 0120 than 0119?
« on: October 22, 2007, 09:52:35 pm »
Can anyone who is using Mame 0120 run Gorf and press F11 to see what percentage you're getting with autoframeskip turned off?

With 0119 I got 100% with a P4 3.2 Ghz, 2GB Ram, ATI Radeon 7000.
With 0120 I can only get 75%.

I thought maybe I had goofed with the compiling so I downloaded the binary and put it into a new folder, but still only get 75%.  Anyone else having a problem, or does 0120 not like my crappy video card.  I checked again on 0119 and it still runs great.

EDIT:
Slow (75%) with 119u1 also.

I'm getting 80% on an AMD Athlon 64, 1GB RAM. It goes up to 100% if I turn off the bezel.
It's pronounced hacker.

Thanks.  Were you getting 100% with the bezel on with 0119 or earlier?  I'm not using any artwork.  Can anyone else with other types of CPUS  give it a shot?

EDIT:
Removed the ATI Radeon 7000 and now I'm back to 100% with integrated video.  Looks like its time to order a video card.

Gorf has always run like ass on MAME from my understanding (at least since .106 when I started on this hobby).  I've asked and the only response I ever get is that the game code is very sloppy and it's not a priority?!   I dunno... :dunno

It was actually fixed a few versions ago (I'm the one who submitted the bug).  It runs pretty well now AFAIK.

I wonder if it was the card or the driver?  What integrated video do you have?

according to M.A.W.S., Gorf runs at 60.054442Hz

Could this have anything to do with the autoskipping options which are now mandatory in newer versions of MAME?  I thought I remember reading that you have to trick it into running a hair faster/slower then your set resolution.  Sounds goofy me saying it, I thought that sounded goofy when I first read it too!  Maybe I'm talking gibberish also.   :dunno
