Mamewah custom lists & getting () [] stuff to NOT display
« on: September 30, 2004, 01:43:37 pm »
Allright, what I want is lists which don't display the "(U) [!]" & "(1978) (Atari)" and (Japan 970311) type info.

Seemingly, the way to do this is as simple as generating a Custom List and setting it to NOT display the clone info right?

I have a coupla problems here though.

First off, I'm completely unable to "Generate Custom List from Filters" from within MAMEwah.  I have the option.  But when I select that option, nothing happens.  I should get another screen that lists the filters I could generate on, right?  Doesn't happen.  Catver.ini is in the root \MAME\ directory and is found automatically by the MAMEwah setup utility.  I get no choices in the "Filter Editor" section of the Setup utility though.  I'm assuming that my catver simply isn't really being read.  Anyone have any hints as to why?

Secondly, If I use the MAMEwah Setup utility I can generate custom lists based on the () & [] info for the various console emulators, but I cannot figure out how to get that info to not display.   ie. I want to display "Adventure" in the game list, not "Adventure (1978) (Atari)"  I thought this was as simple as unchecking the "Display clone info in custom lists" selection, but that doesn't seem to be working for me.

If you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible reminder.

I'm glad you posted this. I'm working on this exact problem, but I don't have the layout for the custom list file. Hopefully Minwah and the other FE devs will read this and post the file format.

I got annoyed with many different games all really being the same, so I decided to write something that will strip the () [] stuff and make the game unique in the list.

So, instead of:
Pac-Man (version 1)
Pac-Man (version 2)
...
Pac-Man (version 1 zillion)

you would just see
Pac-Man

If you uncheck the Display Clone box, you won't get Pac-Man, you'll just get Puck-Man.

My list generator can scan through the list and remove anything you don't want, such as "Puck-Man" or catver categories.
I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Please read the wiki!

Are you using MameWah 1.5?

If so, it should be as easy as setting the:
                 display_clone_info                     0
in your emu_name-1.ini file  (i.e. mine is Atari2600-1.ini)

Then within Mamewah, press 2, scroll down to "Games Lists Options", press 1, scroll down to "Generate Filtered List..." and press 1.

This creates a custom list without all those extra characters.

Atleast that is what works for me.

MAMEwah .97 and that didn't work for me.  I know it's supposed to, but it doesn't seem to.  :(

Minwah?

Can you not cross-post in both MAMEWAH board and here please - it wastes my time going through both.

Sorry, first off, I didn't necessarily think you'd be the only one who could answer this and secondly you seemed to be away for a bit and not answering.  Figured maybe someone else on one of the boards would be able to answer.  Guess not, since even your answer on the MAMEWAH boards doesn't really answer anything.

If you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible reminder.

The reply at MameWorld explains exactly what to do, or at least what to check - read again.  Perhaps I should have also stated 'don't use MW Setup for this', if that is not clear.

FWIW I wasn't complaining, rather asking.
