I guess the guy misunderstood things more than anyone else. Does anyone think the devil is respnsible for punishing people? I though the only thing he did was to lure people on the path of evil. But then I don't believe in god so I must be "in the devil's hands anyway"

i dunno. since Satan is a judeo-christian concept then i would tend to go along with whatever it is THEY say he is.

"Misrepresentation of Satan"... hmmm, interesting.  Here's where I see the whole God/Satan ideology: both are beliefs and not facts (though the devout would argue that point).  The existence of either is dependent on faith.  It's like with God... I can't say another religion has 'misrepresented' him if they see him in a different way that the way I was taught to see him.  Same thing goes for Satan.  To many, he may be the man behind the world's suffering.  To others, he may just be a symbolic personification of a lack of morals.  

Thing is, I didn't see that article you pointed to as anything than a straight fact sheet on the history of this biblical figure.

I'm interested to learn how you consider yourself a follower of satanism.  Not a challenge of your beliefs or a knock on them (the only ones I made fun of were those freaks who started telling people with a straight face that they were vampires, which happened around the time Anne Rice gained popularity), but I am curious to see how you came to worship a figure more or less associated with evil.  More specifically, I'm interested as to why you think he's being mispresented.

I wasn't disagreeing with you - I have no opinion.  But you should assume that I have no desire to look these things up in Google so perhaps a little embellishment is helpful.  

Secondly, I'm beginning to think you didn't even read the post I wrote.  I never once used the word 'devil' nor did I challenge your beliefs.  I also never assumed you were trying to convert me.  

Anyway, though I may be wasting my virtual breath, I was stating how misrepresentation is relative with unworldly figures - whether they are real or imagined.   I was also curious to see how you became a satanist.   No offense but with controversial religions it's often a case of rebellion or a desire for uniqueness rather than a strong belief.

You're exactly right.  I think it's funny how the author talks about people taking that passage out of context, when he only quoted the parts that seem to support his idea... he left out much of what people generally refer to in that passage when speaking of satan.
