K7000 flyback replacement?
« on: January 13, 2010, 05:38:53 am »
I have 25" K7000 series (how to check precisely what model is it?) monitor. I rejuvenated it yesterday. The picture is great, colours have never been better. I noticed however that the left side of the screen is somehow different than the right one, you can see it on this video (it is from Nokia monitor test)
There is also another issue - sometimes the screen flashes white for a second, it is connected with ticking sound. I think that flyback is broken. The readings from the back of flyback are "Murata 30AM 8504". I googled for replacement of this model, but found nothing, can you help me with this?

That video is pretty confusing, but most issues with the screen dark on one side and light on the other are cap related - specifically, C57.   Though if the monitor has never been capped it could stand to be by now.

The snapping could be a broken solder joint.  I would go over them all.  I'd also check the focus wire in the neckboard to make sure it's still securely soldered down.

Sometimes tubes go bad in the rejuvenation process. After been rejuvenated some tubes start shorting inside. The typical symptom resembles your description, that is, the screen flashes white or any other color, you hear the tick, the power supply shuts off, then it restarts again, then the tube shorts the high voltage again flashig the screen and so on. Sometimes the cycle does no repeat itself and the flashing is esporadic specially at high brightness levels. Try lowering the brightness and see if it happens again. I don't think is the Flyback.

i can see there is a bit of a wobble in the edges of the screen where it's bright, which is not uncommon, it's called blooming. not too much you can do about it. i would also replace the caps... if your hearing popping, it could be a capacitor that's shorting out.

flybacks usually fail CATASTROPHICALLY, if it was the flyback you would be shorting out on the neckboard between the focus and ground or possibly inside the flyback, it would be making lots of noise. i don't think it's your problem. the flashing your seeing, is the voltage from the flyback getting dumped into the tube when the power is cut. if you pay attention, nearly all tv's do this when you shut them off. (they flash white for a split second.)

a shorted cap will load the powersupply down untill it does an auto-shutdown

check Vreg, all flyback connections and Hsweep. appears to be some distortion of the waveform present - per vid.
note : the horiz output pulse to the flyback is typically  1.2kvpp   DO NOT MEASURE without proper equipment/knowledge  :timebomb:

debris can bridge electrodes during the rejuvination process.
which , IS a good reason to tilt the crt forward just a bit while rejuvinating.  ;)

generally , the debris will burn out over time . snap !
besides, the tube would need to run awhile to settle into the new operating parameters .
THEN adjust white balance (grayscale) / chroma levels.....

I did capkit few months ago. The blooming occured right after the rejuvenation. I resoldered few caps and ticking sound with screen flashing is gone. But blooming annoys me, the higher is the contrast the bigger is the blooming. Other than that, the picture is perfect.

a bad HV diode can cause excessive blooming, so can a bad "big" capacitor (the biggest main 200/300/400uf 400v power filter cap), but you have to expect a little - and by little i mean up to 1/2 inch of width difference between full black and full white screens, if it's just a little exsessive i would suspect the HV diodes if it's all over the place with a moving picture and your going to chunk just looking at it, then i would say the cap.

if your still having issues with "snapping" noises...easy trick...turn out the lights and watch it for a bit, if it's arcing on the flyback you'll see it.
