Hi again guys,

So I thought I was done tweaking my MAME config when I realized that higher res games like Final Fight and Dungeons & Dragons don't show correctly on my monitor. They only fill up approximately 50% of the screen and if I try to adjust (stretch) the image with the D9800's OSD then the geometry gets all messed up.

I have used ArcadeVGARes to set the resolution for every game, but obviously the resolution for games like Final Fight are wrong (?). Do I really have to set these resolutions manually or is there an easier way to fix this problem?

My specs are as follows:

System: Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 @ 3.06GHz, 2GB DDR2 memory, ArcadeVGA2 (AGP version), Windows XP Pro SP3 (nLite'd version)

Monitor: Wells Gardner D9800 27"

Your help and input is highly appreciated. Thanks!

I figured I need to use Mame Res Tool instead, but I can't get it working on my system. When I try to generate the games list all I get is a "Error 13: Type Mismatch" message and then the application crashes.

So, basically I need to get this app working as I refuse to manually set resolutions for thousands of games.  :'(

BTW, if anyone here with WG D9800 + AVGA2 has an already working .ini setup, then I'd appreciate it a lot if you .zipped it down and sent it to me. :)

Ok I solved it. I deleted the 50hz/51hz modes from the ArcadeVGA.txt file before I ran ArcadeVGARes and now every game looks awesome (at least those I've tested so far). I wasn't aware that ArcadeVGARes read resolutions from the ArcadeVGA.txt file (but now I do). :)

I finally got around to reading your PM (sorry for the tardiness, I've been swamped with projects).  I have a 27" Betson and an arcade VGA2 - very similar setup.  Well, I used to... I've since upgraded my video card to a stronger ATI card running "Soft 15KHz" instead.  Same monitor though.

I run the MAME res tool and it seems to run fine on my system.  I've run MAME res on WinXP Pro SP3 and also and Nlited version as well.  They both work.  Not sure why yours gets that error.  Have you tried contacting the author?  He's very helpful and a member here at BYOAC.

Glad to hear that you got the problems resolved.  I wouldn't mind taking a peek at your .ini files.  Any chance you can attach them somewhere?

Also, did you get your vertical games to work?  How do they look?  Ms. Pacman?  Donkey Kong?  Punch Out?

Hey dude and sorry for the late reply.

I have no idea why MAMERes Tool didn't work, but as I got AVRes working fine I didn't spend more time on it. There are still some vertical games that doesn't look right though (mostly because top/bottom is cut), but my favorite classic vertical games like Donkey Kong and Bomb Jack looks great, so I haven't spent time trying to find alternative resolutions. Ms. Pac-Man is cut as far as I can remember, so I will have to try to fix that one, as it's one of my favorites. :)

The only small issue I have left now is the fact that when I adjust one game, another one might get off-center/stretched etc. I think I've went through (and adjusted) all possible resolutions now at least 5 times, but there are still a few games that gets off centered etc. Do you have the same issue?

Do you want all my game .inis or just my mame.ini etc.? :)

I wouldn't mind taking a peek at your game inis.  I could supply you with mine as well so you can check them out.  You could always take the ones that you like.  I have Ms. Pac running perfectly.  :)
