lightgun lcd top gun change position in mame (mouse1 or mouse3)
« on: January 11, 2010, 11:11:04 pm »
hi

I have a trackball, a spinner and a lcd topgun installed, everything work fine but the only problem I have is when I turn on the computer an start a game (gun game) sometime my lightgun is mouse 1 and sometime is mouse 3. I have to go to my game configuration menu to change it everytime it change... it's does'nt same to keep is place as mouse 1 or 3 but change.  I use mame 0130

Is there something I can do to have my 3 mouse keeping is place when I turn on the computer..

thank,s Gino

Do you unplug the gun when you stop playing? What I believe is happening is windows is defining different device ids on boot. If you are unplugging the gun make sure you plug it in before you boot up, and then only unplug it once the comp is off. This way it will get the same id every time.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a fix for this.  I had the same problem and after searching the web there doesn't seem to be way to assign an order to the ids on the mice devices.  It doesn't have anything to do with mame, it's an issue with windows.

I've had the same recurring issue and I haven't been able to problem solve it either...  bummer.  Notification is definitely on for this one!

What you could do is just save multiple inputs.... Mame is capable of saving many different buttons/axis per input. So for each game configure it for whatever mouse it is detected as. Then reboot and when it is detected as another mouse, save those settings in addition to the other input already saved instead of overwriting. Do the same thing for the third mouse. This would of course mean the gun could be controlled by another device but you probably won't be using those in conjunction with the gun anyways.

You can try plugging the USB devices into different hubs (some motherboards actually have multiple hubs onboard, so you don't necessarily need physical hubs).  This has been used in the past, but there may be better solutions at this point.   :dunno

Yes, I think this would work if you didn't require simultaneous multiple mouse input.  It doesn't work with my setup though since I am using two guns.
