Using newest mame with old romsets
« on: January 11, 2010, 01:36:42 am »
Hello all,

I am using the mame 133u5 romset with mame ui 133u5 and I have no need to change or update, however i want to incorporate high scores. Now to do this I understand I will have to recompile so my question is will I have any problem using my old roms wiht the newest mame (136)?

I'm using a precompiled mameui right now so I have no experience but the compiling guide in the high score diff sticky is really easy to follow.

Is there anyway to incorporate high score support without recompiling?

Thanks for any help.

Well, recompiling is the easiest way to have high scores. (The other way is to roll back to a .107, before the high scores were taken out. But then you'd have the similar rom issues)

In such a small change, you shouldn't have any major issues. Only a few games change with each update.

If you're really worried, though, you could always use the old source code...

Thanks for the help bobulus.

When updating a romset does one need to update the chds at all?

Also when recompiling will I have to redo all of my video and game settings, or can I just copy over all the .cfg and ini files to make mame like it was before?

CLRMame Pro will tell you what needs to be updated....

I update every version.  Not Mame, but I keep a separate set of roms on an external harddrive 100% up to date.
