The ominous black bar of DOOOOM
« on: January 08, 2010, 12:27:27 am »
I didnt really want to have to create a topic just about this, so sorry  :)

so i have a situationso here it goes:

I am 75% done on my arcade.
I initially put a newish (2006) 26" crt in my cab that had s-video after first chopping off the speakers on the sides to have it fit and i removed the backing as the screwposts that held it on where now gone.

during the process of mounting i accidentally dropped g-clamp on the neck of the tube. nothing shattered as it was really just a nick.  the tv still works great except whenever something white appears on the screen the side closest to it warps/bends in closer to it. it is really annoying during a game to have the screen wobbling around.

i mentioned the problems i was having to my mum and earlier this week she was given a tv from a friend who she also mentioned it to. The new tv is also 26" and didnt have speakers on its sides, so it will fit straight in. only problem is it only has composite and is older than my other one. i still find its picture quality to be more than acceptable.
i set my computer up with a card that outputs composite and plugged it in. i installed all the drivers and utilities for it and adjusted the video alignment, the picture was originally to the left and up. i moved it across and widened it but when it came to moving the picture down it would move down but at 1/2" from the bottom it would go under the black bar.i tried to use overscan which fixed the black bar problem but now the image is too big.
i tried using a different graphics card, but the same issue. i then moved onto my other computer that is identical to the first and tried it was both cards aswell, exact same problem.
this leads me to believe that there is a setting for the  motherboard , say in the bios or something, causing the issue.
the two graphics cards are an ati gigabyte 128mb something and a radeon 9200se 128mb.

the new tv also has a scan line issue and is bent inwards at the top. are there any utilities that will fix this?

so basically i need to either fix the warping on the first tv or the scanlines and misaligment on the second

thanks for reading my novel  ;D
