Coin door light-box artwork/nightlight??
« on: January 03, 2010, 12:09:07 am »
One of the things I love most about my MAME cabinet is the red glowing coin door lights.  I was wondering if anyone had ever attempted to somehow build a replica light-box / nightlight that would look just like the coin door light inserts.  Something maybe 12 x 15 inches or so and glowing red?  I have no artistic ability, but if I could find the right materials, I think it would be fun to try.

I got mine from here

You possibly could dismantle it and insert the 25c logo, I actually tried to get the insert out but gave up because I thought I would break it.

If you are interested in how it is put together I actually drawn it to scale.

To look at it properly you need to download the free google sketchup program.

Cheers.

PS I am sure you can find a rectangular back lit button somewhere, or mod this one. It is just a printed insert inside.

I'm not looking for an actual coin-door glowing light.  I have those on my MAME machine.  What I was thinking would be cool is to make a larger version, or perhaps a pair of them that I would mount on the wall as a light-box.  Something cool to hang on my son's wall that would light up and look like a big arcade cabinet glowing coin door.

I'm wondering if the easiest way would be to take a black piece of paper, cut out the red bits, and put in a piece of red cellophane. Then you just have to put a normal wall-plug light behind it and you're done!
