ToM Display Stopped Working
« on: December 31, 2009, 01:56:19 pm »
I was playing my ToM the other night and the display just went out.  Turned the machine off then right back on, nothing.  Let the game set over night and the next day it is still not working.

I disconnected the ribbon cable and molex style plug from the display and reconnected them, nothing.  I followed both sets of wires and they connect to the same board.  Disconnected and reconnected the wires at the board side.  Nothing.  The board has two fuses, they checked out good.  There are no visible signs of damage like char marks, exploded caps, etc.

So at this point I could use a little direction as to where to go next.

Are all displays the same, as in you can take a DMD from any machine and put it in any other machine?  I have a Sega and a Bally, so I don't know if these are interchangeable.  Actually, both of the displays are not working right now.

You might want to check the power supply and fuses related to the high voltage section, assuming this is an original Neon type DMD.   If you are using an LED replacement (e.g. PinScore) then they run off +5V instead.

This weekend I found that I am missing the ~68 volts.  The voltage is present on the driver board pin, but not the DMD side pin.  The cable rings out good.  So I guess my next step would be to recrimp the wire to the molex plug?
