PS2 IMAGE + BIN Question
« on: December 21, 2009, 10:51:44 am »
Prior I posted about my new (well used, new to me) PS2 with HD Loader and an 80 gig hard drive.
I've %100 filled the hard drive with the entire ROCK BAND & GUITAR HERO franchise.
I'm now looking to see if I can get my hands on some other IDE hard drives and begin the process of assembling (of sorts)
multiple themed hard drives. Fighters, Sports, RPG, etc.

I've managed to get my hands on a few games and they come in two parts, the BIN File (larger of the two) and IMG file. Other games are simply ISO.
I know I can burn the ISO with NERO and I believe the BIN + IMG files with BOOT DREAMS ? (same way I would do a Dreamcast game I think)

My question is this, I don't need to burn the games as I simply want to move them over to my PS2, I know when I use winHIP I can easily move ISO's.
What should I be doing/using in order to get games that consist of IMG + BIN file onto my PS2 hard drives ?

You can mount those image files
onto a virtual drive. (Damon tools, Alcohol...whatever.)
Then load the game onto your HD
via the disc option/method.

Are these IMG + BIN files PS2 games that were released on CD instead of DVD?

Hey guys,

based on the size of the games I would believe these are CD games.
Most if not all are under 500 MB.
the PS2 itself is a softmod and its using HD Loader.
I know I can move ISO's onto the HDD using winHIP.
And I know if it had a chip and I were to burn the disc I could move it onto the HDD.
But these are IMAGE + BIN files that I would like to move onto the HDD.

Any help would be awesome !

I think they may need to patched since your manually putting them on but I could be wrong.

Winhiip I am sure (at least the last time I used it) also allowed you to install games to your ps2 hard drive from a cd/dvd drive. In that vein, use daemon tools or alcohol 120% or your other favourite image/iso mounting program to mount the img+bin to a virtual dvd drive, and install from that virtual dvd drive using winhiip.

I've never personally seen one in that format but if you can mount it and those programs can mount just about anything, the above method should work fine.

If you can't do that, what I would do instead is mount your img+bin onto a virtual drive, and use imgburn to make a .iso of it which you can then install your regular way.

Thanks guys.
I use NERO but I dont think it can do all the things you are saying.
Ill need to hit google for a lil more research.
I was thinking worst case I would need to burn the games (keep/store the back ups), then reload the ISO onto my PC to mount it.
But if I can avoid the burn that would rock.
So again thanks for the info.
Off to do my research.

Sorry, IMGBURN I have. I just got it for a project I need to do for my Bro's 360.
Can I use IMGBURN to mount the image+bin to a virtual drive and creat the ISO ?

Imgburn will create the iso for you from a virtual drive, but you need to install different software for a virtual drive - daemon tools is generally though of as the best for this. Download the lite version from http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads (lite is free for home users).

Once it's installed, right click on the daemon tools icon on your taskbar and it will have mount: and you can choose which file you want to mount to the virtual drive. Pick your img+bin and it will mount, then use imgburn to make an iso of it.

That should just about cover it but if you can't manage that then burning and making an iso should work too, but this saves you a disc :)

Ok, so I got everything ready.
Perhaps you can let me know if I'm doing this correctly.

Goto my DAEMON tools, right click,
goto VIRTUAL DEVICES, then MOUNT IMAGE

now when I do this the ISO is visible, but the BIN file isnt.
If I select ALL FILES I can see both files. I'm assuming that is what I do ?

Now that is showing as my J DRIVE.

When I open IMGBURN I goto CREATE IMAGE FILE FROM DISC (because DAMEON TOOLS is a virtual drive?)

Im going to try this and write the IMAGE to the desktop, move it over via WINHIP to make sure it works.
If I'm doing anything wrong by all means let me know.
Again, thanks

Close, but there's no need to create an image file from the image file...

WinHIIP can install directly from a disc or in this case from an emulated disc.

Once you get the disc mounted, either with the .bin or .img (whichever works):
Open up WinHIIP.
Hit "Select Drive"
Select the drive that has "PS2" in the title
Hit "Add Image(s)"
Select "CD/DVD Drive X:"  where X=the drive letter assigned to Daemon Tools

I forget the rest of the steps but you should be able to figure it out.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Ah, ok, ok, thanks !
So simply mount the BIN file, which goes to my J-Drive.
Then in when I goto WinHIP and "ADD IMAGES" I should be able to see my virtual J-Drive as created by DAEMON.
I really appreciate the info guys & gals, thanks.

Now the fun begins!
I'm still on my quest for old hard drives...but I'm sure it will work out.

Haven't been able to pick up and new/used/old IDE hard drives yet.
So I'm yet to move over the ISO's I created.
For this time around I created ISO's and saved them on my PC.
I'll post my results when available.

I'm pretty sure if WinHIIP won't transfer .bin files, you can just rename the extension from "bin" to "iso" , and it will work fine...

It's faster  as  you can select a slew of them for install, instead of mounting each and ever one on a virtual drive and waiting.

I'm sure I did this many a time years ago :)

P.S. Good luck finding any worth while used IDE HD's cheap. When I last hooked up someones ps2 w/ memory card exploit & HDL I ended up buying a new one off of Newegg.

Hey Mike,

What's the latest?  Did you get it to work?

I came across this App.:

Convert bin/cue files to an ISO file using bin2iso

http://www.softpedia.com/downloadTag/bin2iso

I've never used it though so I don't know how good it is.  Anyone ever use this App?

Sorry for not responding sooner.
I partialy forget now what I did with this whole process.
My PS2 HDD is full and I havent yet tracked down another.
When I got it to the state I wanted (all Rock Band & Guitar Hero games) I stalled.
SO I APOLOGIZE ! Anyway...............
I mounted the files in DAMEON tools, then created the ISO using DVD DECRYPTER.
Once the ISO was created (and parked on my hard drive) I move them over with WinHIP

thanks guys for all the help,
I love this forum.

Great source of info and help.
