I got banned from Demonoid back when I was just starting to use bittorrent for the first time and didn't understand it.  I was leaving my downloads in my download folder so that they would seed, but I wasn't force-starting them, so they weren't automatically seeding.  They were just sitting there in a queue waiting to be seeded someday.  So my ratio got out of whack and one day I went there and got a nasty message about leeching and I was banned.  I contacted the site owner or an admin, apologizing and explaining why I had been inadvertently leeching.  The guy acted like a five-year-old about it.  Seriously, it was like he looked over and saw me playing with one of his discarded toys on the playground and had a temper tantrum, while I just looked around uncomfortably and said, "I'm sorry . . . I didn't know it was his.  It was just sitting here."  In the end he reluctantly gave me upload privileges back so I could fix my ratio.  I started some files seeding, but I never actually went back to download anything.  He was just such a dork.

I need to find a good new torrent search engine. Mininova gave it up, and they were my favorite.... If anyone has a reliable one that is relatively safe, please PM it to me.

Or just go someplace safe and not bother.  It's not like the private trackers cost anything to use.

Chad, I assure you that you misunderstand me.  I don't just mean that he was being inflexible or something.  He could have just said, "Sorry, we deal with too many people to allow exceptions.  Next time understand what you're doing before you do it."  That would have been disappointing, but respectable.  You know that I am not thin-skinned.  This wasn't just acceptable behavior that I disliked because it didn't favor me.  Think of Xiaou or Cyberpunk when someone disagrees with them and you begin to get closer to the mark.  It was just utterly absurd behavior.

You're complaining that the guy running a gigantic eyepatch/pegleg community was rude to you after you broke the rules due to ignorance of them.  Think about who you're dealing with there.

It's also a day or two after you called someone here a liar about reading the rules when joining a new community...

Also, I will give Demonoid the fact that they know that nobody is going to go voluntarily search out a list of rules beforehand.  They advertise the ratio rule front and center at all times.  My breaking the rule had nothing to do with ignorance of the rule.  It had to do with ignorance of how to properly use a bit torrent client.

Or it could be said I pointed out that a guy who runs a major torrent tracker acted like a 5 year old when you wanted him to give you a waiver on rules... well, duh.  Turn off Mr Attorney when you step into that circle of friends, shmokes.

My upload capabilities are significantly lower than my download capabilities, and I'm not about to wait 1-2 weeks between downloads to let my ratio catch up. Besides, I prefer any connection to the tracker to be terminated as soon as the download is complete.

That's the case with most home broadband users.  Definitely is for me.

That's the issue.    Depending on what the item is I might have to seed a couple weeks.  What helps is leaving the seed open for hot items for as long as it is hot.  If you seed something hot to 600% then you don't have to worry as much about leeching another item once in a while.  I try to keep my ratio around 4 for that reason.  I like to download older stuff that has 3 seeders and no leechers.

i dont get why people have a hard on for demonoid, ive heard about it in other forums and such.  The thing is there are TONS of torrent sites out there and what ever you want is at the tip of your fingers.  I dont know, i just dont get it, will someone explain?

Harder to get in, easier to get kicked out means more seeders, less leachers. Means good download speeds, long-lasting torrents, etc.

I'm a member of many torrent sites, and demonoid has been the best one. Every time it's down, suddenly I can't find anything. Once it's back up, I can find damn near EVERYTHING.

thepiratebay.org is great, as is btjunkie.org.  But those must be taken with caution, more possibility of  shenanigans.  Torrentscan.com is a good search engine that can search multiple sites.
