360 vs PS3 exclusive titles.
« on: December 09, 2009, 01:05:08 am »
Yeah... No I'm not asking which is better. I'm trying to figure out which titles are exclusives for the individual consoles. I'm not big on sports (I'm just not into sports video games :dunno) and my attention to FPS is meager because I'm a mouse/keyboard kind of guy.

I'm asking because I have a free pass to a game console this Christmas and my choice is between the 360 and PS3 (we have two Wii's already, no sense in getting a third  ;D).

All I've been able to really come up with for the 360 are games like Left 4 Dead and Beautiful Katamari.

For the PS3 all I've come up with is God of War, Little Big Planet and Katamari Forever. GoW and Katamari are a big ones. Coupled with the builtin WiFi, the PS3 might win my choice.

Most of the games I already like exist on both consoles such as GTA, Fallout and games that have my interest like Bioshock, The Orange Box, and Dead Space.

I guess that leaves some exclusive console title I forgot about and the online stores. Am I forgetting some must-have exclusive titles for either console?

A lot of the content on Xbox Live Arcade is exclusive.  Sony doesn't seem to be into emulating or porting a lot of arcade games to their platform.  Even Outrun Online Arcade isn't available on PS3 in North America.

So XBLA gets everything from Ikaruga to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Pac-Man to Virtual On.  Even contemporary Japanese Shmups are getting exclusive Japanese Xbox 360 retail releases over the PS3.  (Don't ask me why, it makes no sense to me but it's true!)

There is a list here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_exclusive_to_a_seventh_generation_console

The 360 has fable2, halo, crackdown, gears of war to list a few.

Most games in the past have come out on the 360 first like bio shock and games like GTA only have the extra missions at first on the 360.

THe big plus for the 360 is live is fantastic and worth a look if you like multiplayer games.

I own both now and think the xbox360 is still a better console at the moment but it is at least a year older so i would say the ps3 technology should come to the front soon.

I suppose this is unnecessary since you already have the Wikipedia list which is presumably complete.  But anyway, I'll say that probably the most significant exclusive for PS3 so far is the Uncharted series.  I just played Uncharted 2 and it was fantastic.  An absolute blast to play and easily the highest production values I've ever seen in a game ever.  Other big ones are Demon's Souls, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo 5, Infamous, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank.  Also Ninja Gaiden 2 for PS3 has the exclusive feature of breast jiggling.  No . . . seriously, you can jiggle the main character's breasts by shaking the controller.  No . . . I'm serious . . . Tecmo actually developed that feature.  Heavy Rain is another PS3 exclusive that looks like it could be super great, but it's not out yet, so we'll see.

I just spent way too much time on this at work, but since I did, might as well share.

Here are the top 50 games for each system as ranked by metacritic, and if they are on the other console or not.  The only "unreleased" confirms that I have are Peggle and Peggle Nights. I didnt dig that deep into it though, just what metacritic had listed as coming soon or not.

If anyone has any corrections, let me know.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but I have Peggle for PS3.  So I would say it definitely exists.  Also, for anyone unable to read that chart even in the full-size version, you can zoom in and out by holding the ctrl key while manipulating the scroll wheel on your mouse.  This is a wonderful trick to know if you don't already.  It also works in MS Office apps.

Also I have Castlevania: SotN for PS3.  It is a PSX classic . . . just the same as if I put the original in my PS3 and played it.  But I purchased and downloaded it from PSN so I assume that counts, unless the 360 version is actually upgraded in some way.

By the way, I've always heard about this game but it's one that I never played for one reason or another.  I've been playing through it for the last couple weeks.  It's really good.

SOTN was odd, I dont know why its not listed on metacritic.  Peggle and Peggle nights were listed under coming soon, so maybe just not enough reviews yet?  I dont know.

I didnt do any research beyond what I knew for sure already and looking at http://www.metacritic.com/games/xbox360/scores/ and http://www.metacritic.com/games/ps3/scores/

So my info is limited to that, take it for whats its worth.

Updated SOTN based on your comment.

The purpose was to give an air of quality to the exclusive games.  A wholesale list is good to know, but its also useful to know which exclusives are worth having.  Limiting to the top 50 was just a function of how many I could fit in my browser to take a screenshot.  For instance, if you are a baseball game fan, MLB 09 The Show being PS3 only is huge, if you couldn't care less about baseball games, then its good to know that as well.

Between the two systems, it gives an idea of the top 70 games or so out there (with all the Guitar hero variants actually being ranked like they are separate games and all).

I'm also not a fan of FPS games on consoles, so heres my favorite 360 exclusives:
Mass Effect (soon Mass Effect 2)
Crackdown
Fable 2

All three of those are absolutely fantastic and a ton of fun to play (IMO).

I try to stay out of these kinds of discussions but Gran Turismo 5 isnt out, just "Gran Turismo 5 Prologue" and its pretty horrible (yes, I own it) Forza 2 and 3 are both WAY better, but the real GT5 is supposed to be better. Best exclusive on PS3 is uncharted 2 and the ratchet and Clank games. God Of War  3 isnt due out until March of next year.

Fable 2 was a let down to me, too much hype it didnt deliver on.

Well...

Better than GT5 Prologue for sure, but there is no signs of it being any better than Forza 3 yet. A demo is supposed to be released in 8 days though. I have always been a GT whore, and anticipation of it is one of the main reasons I even own a PS3. GT5:P was indeed a letdown though, and Forza III proved to be absolutely amazing (especially with the Fanatec Turbo S wheel).

Of course GT5 and God of War III aren't out yet, but they are imminent.  They can certainly be considered exclusives at this point since we know without question that they will not be canceled.  They may be let-downs, of course, but they will be exclusives nonetheless.

that was my point.  That even though some games are exclusive, that doesnt make them good games.

They're bound to be at least as good as Ninja Gaiden's PS3 exclusive six-axis breast jiggling feature.

I'm the same way... I love first person shooters and can't stand playing them with a game controller. I tried the demo's of Wolfenstein and Killzone and couldn't bear to play either one for more than a few minutes with those crap controllers. It feels like driving a tank after using a mouse.

I think the XBox has the stronger game list, but knowing that I wasn't going to be playing a ton of stuff on it, I went for the PS3 because of its BluRay ability. The newer PS3 firmware also has the Media Sever and Netflix support as well now if that matters to ya.

One other thing. Look at the list of single console releases that are also coming to PC. There were a few of them this year. The PC might be able to fill in some of the gaps. There are a lot of XBox games that make it to PC but not PS3.

I don't think Netflix is in the firmware yet unless it's in the little firmware update they released last night.  I'm almost positive it's not, though, or I'd have read about it.  You have to put a disc in the drive to stream Netflix.  It's a PITA, but the firmware solution will be here soon.

Also, the PS3 has USB ports and bluetooth.  I know that mice and keyboards are supported.  I assume, but do not know, that they can be used in games . . .

Ummmm... The 360 has USB ports as well. In fact it has more USB ports than the PS3 does. :p

A keyboard can be used on the 360 as well, just not in a game control way, but for text entry or chatting.

On the PS3 it is up to devs to support a kb and or mouse. Pretty much none do. If there is a list somewhere it will fit on one hand.

The gamepad keyboard on the 360 is a bazillion times better (scientifically factual).

That being, I don't think you can go wrong with either system if talking just exclusive games.

Lol . . . I'm not in a PS3 vs. 360 war.  I just don't have a 360 and I have a PS3 so I can speak with some experience about the PS3.

I'm not in a war either.

I was just clarifying, since I do own both. No doubt I am skewed toward 360 though. :)
