The coach should instill a team rule that anyone who wants to break their stick in frustration might as well head for the locker room. It was an accident, but the coach should create a zero tolerance policy for that bush league act.

quick recap of all the posts:

I show an example of a player staying in the rules who should have been punished in contrast to what ballard did. I say sapp is a real butthole because he did something within the rules with intent to hurt while ballard did something on accident.

You reply  sapps a butthole and they changed the rules because of him.

My point was people who do crap in the rules to hurt someone on purpose should be punished.
I think your point is the NHL should make a rule that you cant hit your own goalie with a stick

I reiterate my point and ask if you were mad he hit his goalie or broke his stick.

You don’t  answer my question then say there’s no rule against breaking your stick. Then you say the team should suspend him.

I point out your contradictions in the rules. Then I try to reiterate the difference between going out of the way to hurt someone and doing it on accident. I ask why you chastise the guy

You agree its forgivable but say he needs to be punished, say image and team is important. And say if hes breaking a rule that doesnt exist hes breaking the rule (I don’t quite get it)

*****I do acknowledge there is no provision for intent, but that’s where commissioners and everything get involved. 2 people can do similar things but under the circumstance and taking player reps into account they can have very different penalties ******

I say he doesn’t need punished, because he has to live with what he did. I retort on team image and team mates. I watched the interviews, they seemed genuine

you say punishment is to deter others from hitting their goalies in the face with a stick. You imply I'm a sports reporter, then you imply that if I were a sports reporter Id be wasting my time because no athlete ever tells the truth to any of them.

*****My point all of this was that they don’t need a rule to tell a player to not hit a team mate with a stick and that the guy shouldnt be punished by the league. Now if the Pathers wanna sit him for a game or two to make a point, that’s within their rights, but it’s pointless to make an example of a guy who made a mistake and seems genuinely sorry for it.*****

back to the recap:

I call you an ---uvula---, because , you are acting like one; cant help, seems you cant either. I tell you once again the guy did it on accident and that his team mates should accept it and move on. I then made a quip about how yeah I interviewed the players personally and say if the players hold a grudge its that players issue not ballards or vokouns.

I ask you what you issue with Ballard is.

you have a hissy fit and don’t answer, again.

@Shardian I agree that'd definitely be one way to curb this kinda crap from happening again.

done headbanging?  A debate is when someone makes a point and you address it then counterpoint. Try harder

Yikes!  Not to add fuel to the fire, but did anyone see Ballard accidentally hit Colorado's goalie Craig Anderson last night?  Anderson was down and Ballard crashed into the boards where immediately Foote jumped on him and started wailing away.  That one was a complete accident and if it had happened to anyone else, everyone would have recognized it as such.  It wasn't a cheap shot or intentional, but because of the Ballard's hit on Vokun, players are on the look out.

Regardless of what the Panthers organization and players say, guys around the league have their own opinions about that incident.  I think that Foote's actions are a good indication of that.

Personally, I dislike the fact that hockey players show their frustrations by smashing their sticks whether it be against the net or boards.  I think that it's unprofessional and does nothing to bolster team spirit.  That's the upsetting part for me at least is that a goalie got injured by such a juvenile act.  Admittedly, after hearing Vokun's and Ballard's statements, the incident doesn't seem to be as bad as everyone is making it out to be.  If anything, maybe this incident will deter other players from smashing their sticks against goalposts...
