Pokemon Battle Royale - WiiWare
« on: November 19, 2009, 05:09:27 pm »
OK - my kid is a Pokemon fanatic. To a point, so I am. I think they're almost sickeningly cute (some of them). So I was excited about this game coming out - up until I saw the 1500 point price tag. Nevertheless, I couldn't resist downloading the demo (btw, demos are something WiiWare desperately needed, IMHO).

The game overpowered me with its cuteness. A bit repetitive, it is no World of Goo or Lost Winds 1 or 2, but it marvelous at doing what it does, which is have these little guys battle it out for ultimate domination in a battle royale style. Oh sure, it'd be nice if the design of the stages were different with each rank (maybe - that's sort of up in the air as each Pokemon lives at a particular place: grass, water, etc), and online play might be nice to, but these are nitpicking with a game who's controls are simple, and whose minature creatures are well designed. Your positive play does (edit) NOT (end) evolve your collected Pokemon, BUT there are evolved versions of each Pokemon to pick up in some levels.  Plus, you have the ability to carry two moves per Pokemon - and therein is a plus; no one super warrior will emerge. I think it's easily one of the best new titles for Wii Ware in a while.   :applaud:

WiiWare reviews even surprised me by giving it an 8 out of 10. I have to agree. The fun of the game and the replay value are really high. It may be a bit pricey at 1500 points (I still haven't decided on that), but once again, it is superb in that it does what it set out to do very, very well.

I apologize for the edits on this: when I first wrote it, my child was worse than a cat trying to see what I was doing.

We love the game around here, too.  It's very easy, but fun.  Club Nintendo - in an act of finally being useful for something - emailed us some codes to unlock other playable Pokemon for our collection, which was nice.

It's fun.
I'm playing the advanced mode is it?
After you beat it the first time, with
my current best Poke'mon Articuno.
