arcade leechers...
« on: July 19, 2003, 11:04:08 pm »
man, i went to a local arcade and played some r-type-esque shooter for 15 min or so, til the last boss. then i ran out of quarters. when i did, as soon as i left, some kid shoved quarters in and continued my game. wtf is that? is this something that everyone does now? when i played in arcades no-one did that. mebbe i am just ranting, but seeing that kid brag to his friends about how he got to the last boss and still had all but 2 of his quarters. kinda ticked me off...

What are you, 12?  :)  I suppose when you go to Vegas, no one can play the slots after you either....  ;)

Why would it be that big of a deal, you weren't going to finish right?  Why not let some dumb kid finish it up and have a little fun?  It's not like he took your girlfriend home afterwards or anything ......  or did he?    :P

If it bothers you so much... why don't you just tap the fire button after you die? On most games that makes the "Continue Countdown" decrease faster.

I second "kicking his ass"

We would do that occasionally in my arcade. There were a few people who were good at Shadow Dancer but had never finished it and they spent about 10 quid between them trying to beat the last boss.

That last boss is an utter ---smurfette---.

Play with the kid!  ;D

Check this one! At the time that i was 14 and i was a KOF's maniac, some people in the arcade used to propose me a 2 player fight! The cab was so desirable that people used to make a queue to play it!  ;D
Some blokes, slobs mostly, just didn't ask! They would play it you anyway without permission! Now that's frustrating!  ;D

Yeah, and whats with people putting quarters on the control panel while you're still playing? Or you supposed to move over when you die or can you keep continuing? I used to keep my extra quarters on the panel for easy reaching, couldn't figure out where the extra one was coming from  ::)

Man, that's something from WAAAAY back.  It was kinda like a queue.  I could never figure out how people knew when it was their turn, though.

by putting a quarter on the game is like saying...
"yo... I'm in the line... and this is my place..."

usually.... if you're in a SF game... you die... you go back to the end of line and stay on line....

but if you're playing those 1 player game and you continue... you can......

well.... if I don't want to continue and the kid behind me continue my game.... I'm fine with it....

it doesn't matter what he braggs about.... he's not bragging in front of my friends.... as long as he's not trashing me.... I don't really care....

---------

actually... if I run out of quarters and can't continue and he continues that game... I would stay around and see how the game finishes.... haaa haa.....

usually... the last few bosses are REAL quarters suckers.... lol..... I might spend $5 to get to the last stage and it might cost another $5 just to kill that boss.... lol....

but this's just me.... hee hee..... peace....
 ;) ;D

Seems to me the funny thing would have been to say really loud: "The hell you did kid .. you continued my game you wuss"  That way he would have been busted in front of his friends.

(then kick his butt outside later to top it off just for fun  ;))

Well when I was younger and I would play fighting games I would drop my quarter into the machine and then wait behind the 2 people playing.

Found out later that in most other parts of the country they line up quarters on the railing where the CP meets the monitor. Personally, I like just dropping it in. That whole quarter thing on the rail annoys me. Don't know why.

Weirdo.

Around these parts they put the quarter on the marquee, right on top of the retainer.  The lower retainer.

the quarters on the panel is old skool, for sure.  this started long before SF games. You place your quarter up in line, and remember which one is yours. kind of an honor system.

It's because some kid will dump $5 in quarters playing donkey kong, so who the hell wants to wait all day for him? put your quarter up and he has to step aside when his game is done.

if they want to continue, he can ask the next guy in line if its cool that he continues...

anyway, It's like lining up quarters on the pool tables. you new kids don't get it i guess. i am old.
