Calling all Sinistar Cockpits
« on: November 12, 2009, 04:26:00 pm »
Anyone know where a Sinistar cockpit can be found so that I can get a couple pictures of the guts for one ? (well, have someone send me pics that is)

Been working on replacing the second sound board and power supply section in one that was completely removed. Just need to verify a few things. The manual is kinda vague when it comes to the cockpit version. The double sound board wiring is what's in question here, power supply wise and ROM board wise.

The boardsets , front and backside where they are mounted. (back side having the power supply and second sound board)

In particular would be how the second (backside) sound board is connected to the power supply and to the main ROM board.

The original power supply and second (rear) sound board have both been removed and the wiring harness hacked accordingly. Right now we have just the main sound board with both the front and rear speakers tied into it. It runs great, sounds fine, but would like to get the original power supply and proper rear sound board situated. (rear sound board for the stereo effect)

When they removed the original power supply and rear sound board they removed the whole backside mounting plate and everything.
 :P
Looks like it should be almost like a Stargate setup with the power supply and sound board on it's separate mounting plate.

That would be much appreciated.
I can't find a single pic to even "point" at the areas of concern. I should have grabbed a couple snapshots while I was down there, but didn't figure it would be this hard to find any.

I know I could do something and make it all "work", but I'd rather get as much as possible back to original as possible.

And yeah, they're a bear to move around for sure.

Oh.... it's up and running right now. Sound, speech, the works.  Totally playable. ;D

All that I'm messing with now is for the "stereo" sound effect. One sound board runs the front speakers with speech and the second runs the rear speakers with just sounds in a stereo fashion in conjunction with the front sounds.
Wouldn't be so bad if they had just left the old parts and harness intact. Kinda hard to "fix" when it's just totally missing.
I could probably wire the second sound board up in about a half hour or so..... but I'm wanting to see how Williams did it. The harness arrangement is in question.

Just realized while using my Stargate as a test bed for sound/speech boards that the power supply/sound board setup in it is kinda what I would expect to be on the backside of the panel that has all the main circuit boards on the front side in the Sinistar Cockpit. (boy that's a long run on sentence)

Note the metal mounting plate..... it's missing in this one completely.

Sorry for the crappy pics, I was working through the coin door and just had my cell phone handy.

I played a Sinistar cockpit today! Although I wouldn't have had access to the boards, so I couldn't have helped anyway. Went to Videotopia in Rochester NY and one of the games they had was a Sinistar cockpit. Speech didn't work though, so I couldn't hear the Sinistar's taunting :(

Aw.... now that would be a bummer.
Just not the same without it.

Did it have sound coming from the front of the cab at all ?
Or was it just the speakers behind ya ?

To be honest, I don't remember. I wasn't really paying that much attention to where it was coming from, I was concentrating on playing the game ;D

No doubt. Early on, some of it, especially the screaming, used ta kinda wig me out.
