Hand nail gun will it do the job?
« on: November 09, 2009, 05:13:51 pm »
Hi,

Looking at http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=26235

A hand held staple and nail gun looking to secure sub mini bar top built out of 12mm MDF router used to take off 6mm the next piece is butted against wanted to know if that type of product would go through? Plan is to use this with glue.

I am trying to get away from screws to give a quicker build.

I have limited funds and tools so an air / electric nail /brad gun is not really an option nor is clever finger joints.

any help or advice would be great.

Many thanks

JR

Well, if you're just going through 6mm of MDF it "should" be ok, but MDF can be an unforgiving material. That gun should shoot brad nails, which would most likely pull out, so I'd go with staples... Really, wood glue and clamps should be enough to hold that together, amazingly strong stuff. :applaud:

Thanks for the reply, my first wood glue test was not great and that is why I was looking into the staple /brad gun but after a second test with a longer wait glue is fantastic.

Thanks again

I'd be surprised if that can sink a staple/brad more than a few mm into MDF.

Use glue and clamps if that is your only 2 options.

An electric brad and staple gun is only about 10 dollars more.   You might want to look into one of the many available.
