Dynamo Cab Project!
« on: November 05, 2009, 05:51:55 pm »
hehe ok, so it's not a restore on a dedicated arcade but I spent most of my time playing on all the different dynamo cabinets during my jr high, high school, and college years. I've always wanted to own one and finally got the chance about 3 years ago.

My first dynamo cabinet had a street fighter 2 in it. Unfortunately it's about ready to fall apart. It looks like the glue around the dowels holding the cabinet together failed. So every now and again, we'd have to push one of the sides back flush. Luckily, I was able to pick up a structurally sound empty dynamo z-back for $50 last night. The plan for now is to pick up my old cabinet from my cousin's garage and transplant everthing into the z-back.

The newer cabinet is far from perfect. I'll have to rebuild some of the edges with bondo/wood-filler as well as plug a few bolt holes left from the removal of the security bars/locks. I'm going to sand down the crappy, black paint job and get it ready for a repaint. I'm actually a little stuck on color choices at the moment. I either want to do red sides with black on the front or blue on the sides with light gray on the front. any suggestions or opinions? I'm also on the lookout for a diamond-plate capcom overlay to recover my existing CP. If anybody know of places that sell NOS or reproductions, I'd be extremely grateful  ;D

I'll post pics later when I get home

thanks! I found the overlay on both websites. Before I order though, I asked the guy who I bought the cab from if he happend to have any spare overlays. It turns out he has an extra street fighter 2 dynamo cp laying around that he doesn't need. I'm going to exchange my current one since it's hacked apart pretty bad. It has a button configuration for soul edge but you can the see the original six button underneath

I think I made my color choice. i'm going to go ahead and keep to the red color. Gonna start with the bondo this weekend and start ordering parts after my vegas trip next week. Wish me luck!

Wow I'm gonna be watching this one.  Would you be able to post some precise measurements/demensions of the sides of your cab?  I'm looking to scratch build my own z-back and it would be a huge help.
On the other side of the screen, it all looks so easy.  -Kevin Flynn
