CP overlay art
« on: November 01, 2009, 10:14:55 pm »
Messing around in photoshop came up with this. My cab colour is neon red, same layout as Knievel's. Still undecided if its too plain, but I wanted something that resembled digital art. If anyone knows a site to get sci-fi digital art in high res please post it here, I'm desperate.

On a different note does anyone know how to get the edging around the outside of the cpo like the halos around the buttons, or how to combine the 6 button halo to include a 7th button by the stick? I'm using Photoshop CS4. If anyone could help i'd be mucho grateful. Sorry for the giant pic :(

OK I used a different link for the cpo art at the top. In terms of that link for the halos, I've seen it and I've used that to make some of the button halos. My issue is that I have 7 buttons instead of the standard 6, so I'm looking for a way to combine 2 objects together, but be able to use knievel's tricks with the 1 super object around the 7 buttons sort of like:

and the big halo around the outside like:

In fact my cp is the same shape as well. I've been stuck looking for a week straight on how to do it, I wanted to try and find it myself before begging for helps :D If anyone proficient in PS CS4 could lend a hand you would have my undying love.

Just merge the layers.

What I do is create the shape I want, merge the layers and then erase the bit I don't want.

So for you I would create a rounded rectangle, and then a circle. Make sure there is no fill on either and use a stroke of 3 or 4. Place the circle where you want it to go against the rectangle.

Draw some straight lines to connect the circle to the rectangle.

Now merge all the layers.

Now erase the bits you don't want.

You should be left with a shape that reassembles the inferno CP.

Make sure you create a LARGE shape, that way you can scale it down and no loss of quality.

You could even vector it for the basic shape then export the photoshop and add effects.

Hopefully I am not confusing you.

Finally got it. I prob did it the long way. I used a blown up overlay of the classic neon cpo. I then used a combination of circles, rectangles and the intersection of 2 elipses for the botton to combine into the shape. All the outside edges matched pretty much perfectly. I used illustrator to combine them into 1 solid shape. I then copied the layer, resized it a bit smaller, and used the paths function to cut out everything inside the slightly smaller shape. What was left was almost an exact copy of the outside halo. I've made a copy of the outside black border, just need to put it in and decide on my final art. I can now import this into photoshop, change the color and add any effects you can regularly add in PS, like inner glow, dropshadows etc. I also figured out the paths funtion in photoshop for my 7 button halos :D. This is probably yawn material to most people that know how to use it, but self teaching and trial and error so you can do it yourself feels good once its done lol.

Note: If anyone has interest in the border halo file just lemme know. I know a lot of people might be interested in this halo but dont want to fumble through the process in making their cpo. It's the least I can do for the help people have given me.
