Street fighter build.......update
« on: November 01, 2009, 09:21:56 pm »
first cabinet Built it from scratch.  Im not quite finished yet.  Im having a peice of 1/16th diamond plate cut for the control panel (capcom used a diamond plate style decal, thought it would fit the theme and look good).  Im also going to give her a diamond plate kick panel and trim.  Let me know what you think and be honest.  thanks

I think that looks bad ass man. The only thing Im not keen on is the marquee. Its an awesome piece of artwork. But I think that'd be better fitted for the control panel or something. The Marquee to me should have a huge STREET FIGHTER title on it.

But other than that it is friggin sweet.

It's pretty cool!  :applaud:
I agree with Gatsu as well, the Marquee should stand out more.
My criticism on first glance is that you should have mirrored the Ryu image so that he was facing towards the front, like Ken is. Or mirror Ken...it just looks odd that they're not facing the same direction.

1 wished Ryu faced the other way too, but his face would have been cut out because of the shape of the cabinet.  I am currently looking for new artwork for the marquee, if any has some please let me know.

thanks

Love the side art... was gonna use that exact image of Ryu on a cab I was working on... Only I couldn't find it in high enough resolution for printing that size.

How'd you manage to get the image so big?

Yeah, i figured that, their body positions work with the shape of the cabinet as is. too bad.

When I looked at that side art, all I could think about was this marquee:

The oldschool Street Fighter 1 marquee!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
This would totally work for you. Though if you don't like the retro look of it, it would be cool to get an updated one of these, with newer-styled artwork to match your sides. But c'mon, ryu and ken kicking the crap outta Sagat, Birdie, Retsu, and Joe...that's fricken awesome!

Side art looks great.  I do agree that if you could get Ryu facing forward it would be perfect.

I also agree with the others on the marquee.  You need something much less busy.  Something simple yet bold, much like the side art.

I don't think the vintage SF marquee matches the style of your side art though.  Maybe you could make a more modern, stylized version of it.

Nice work!

thanks,  Any other opinions or recomendations?

I have the 2 images on my cpu, they are about 35mb each.  I had a friend of mine print them up, he owns a sign making business.  He gave them to me for $125, which I thought was a pretty good deal, the image was 80"x35" when printed.

If anyone has a good marquee on file please let me know, anything around 4mb should due.  If I can figure out how to upload my art images I will.

The marquee art style doesn't look like the side art so I'd forgo that one. I'd also try to get something with more of a generic street fighter logo unless your cab will mostly be playing sfIV.

I have to ask that if you do use it....please give credit where its due.. Also....please don't sell this design. I designed it for my cab and to share with the community. Thats my request.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe he should edit out the "IV" and just have it say Street Fighter?  Probably would be hard to pull off on a .jpg, but if Gatsu has the original in Photoshop, and the title is its own layer, he could probably do it without too much effort.

Nice! Agree with the marquee, needs to tie in more.

Why not do a blue into red fade using the backgrounds of the existing art?

Any chance you could share the character files? I may even be able to do a very quick whip up of a marquee now. But a quick one though to get an idea.

I have a street fighter logo in a different font. I can swap it out and let you take a look at it this evening when I get outta the job.

Seems like Vinyl diamond plate would be an easier choice for the CP. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=79034.0

Much better! However, the art style is different and I'm not one to mix art styles.

That side art is amazing.  I'm loving the flood of SF cabs on the forums of late.  I'm really wanting to start my own build.  Keep up the great work!  (and keep posting the pics!)

thanks Gatsu! and everyone else for the comments and help.  I decided to use the 1/16 metal diamond plate because I thought it would hold up better than vinyl and I didnt want to be constantly cleaning plexi.  The side art files can be downloaded at  http://natedone.deviantart.com/gallery/

thatitalian if you could whip up a header for me that would be awesome too.

thanks again everyone

Just got the diamond plate cut and drilled.  I really like the look of the metal control panel.  I just need to wrap it with t-moliding and wire her up and she should be done for now.  Eventually I will be putting in some speakers above the monitor,  I also have my friend printing me up some direction/move stickers for the bezel.  I will also be adding a diamond plate kick panel.

I am still not happy with the marquee, if someone could create a marquee that would match the cab I will paypal you 25bucks.  must be high res.

I like the concept of the marquee.  A couple things that I think would make it look better would be the diamond plate texture should be either more realistic or more cartoony (I'm leaning more toward cartoony), right now it looks like the background pattern from Win98, "Street Fighter" should be larger and "Capcom" should be in the corner of the marquee.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Love this cab! Artwork is amazing! Only thing I would change on marquee would be maybe to make the glow around the street fighter sign to be more faded?

Looks great. I was going to do similar side art for my cab years ago, but never got around to having them printed.($money$) I had a Ken, and Ryu(same as yours) which I was deciding on for the one side, and had a sweet Scorpion pic(MK)for the other side. As my cab is themed SF & MK. Here is the only pic I have left of the side arts I was creating. I lost the Ryu, and Scorpion to hard drive failure.
