Free Graphing / Blueprint Software?
« on: November 01, 2009, 03:59:10 pm »
Hello everyone-
While this question isn't directly related to building an arcade cabinet, it is related.   I am working on getting started finishing my basement, which is where my game room will be located.    I just measured everything and I'm like to convert my chicken scratch diagram on paper, into a easier to read, and to scale, blueprint diagram of the measurements of my basement on my computer.  So with that said, does anyone know of any good graphing software that I could use to just draw up a simple blueprint of my basement?   I've heard AutoCAD is like the real deal, but I am pretty sure that program costs money.   Also I fear that it might be a little more complex than I wish to tackle, or need.  So does anyone have any suggestions on free software I could use?   Hopefully thats relatively easy to use as well?

Thanks!
-Mark

I'm sure google sketchup (free) could do it. Or any kitchen design software. Most are free.  I have autocad and am fairly handy at it.  If you want help just let me know and i will draw it up for you.

Ok, I will check out Sketchup.  I appreciate the suggestion.   If I have big problems on it and need you to help me draw some things up, I will let you know.   Very nice of you!!

The free version of Sketchup looks like it only does 3D versions of diagrams.   I just need a simple 2D graph sort of thing where the dimensions are the correct scale.
Any ideas?

i have been messing with sketchup and the free version can do 3d and 2d, just need to take the time to go through the tutorials, not too long. or you can just switch to a 3d view. I think its a really easy program for a design newby like myself.
