HELP!!!! My NIB WG D7700 was destroyed by UPS!
« on: October 25, 2009, 03:16:17 pm »
Anyone know what tube would be a good replacememnt for a destroyed Wells Gardner D7700? UPS broke the neck tube during shipping, and since everyone hoarded them when they announced CRT's would no longer be manufactured, finding a replacement is next to impossible.

I'm desperate, here..... And I absolutely REFUSE to put an LCD in my Pac-Man.

What's the TUBE number ?
(big sticker applied directly to the tube)
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

It's an Orion tube #a48jll40x

My only problem is I have no monitor repair experience beyond capping. So I'm in total noob territory.

And how do I get the epoxy still holding the neck to the neckboard off to remove the tube?

I haven't seen epoxy hold the neck board on, more like an adhesive type material, but one thing to check is to see if epoxy is holding the yoke on.  If so, then it is a PIA.

Let us know if you decide to sell it.

That gray stuff is most likely a rubbery silicone of sorts, just take a sharp razor blade and slice between the black piece and the white piece.

And yeah.... hopefully it's not a bonded yoke, then you're screwed.

Was this monitor NEW ?
Or was there any sort of insurance on the shipping ?

Yes - It was never used. It was still taped up in it's original box from WG, with the plastic still over the monitor.
Yes - It was insured. But if they give me the money, and take the monitor, I'm S.O.L. - It took me 3 months to find that one, and my old K4600 this was supposed to replace is dead as a doornail.

You may be right. The goo looks like it's holding the neckboard to the yoke, or to keep the covergence in place. It's not on the tube, itself. And there is a metal plate surrounding the neckboard, instead of the usual strip of cardboard. So that may be there to support the weight.

I found this tube... I assume this will work since it's the same model, but different brand

I would strongly consider taking the money and keep monitor hunting. Who knows how this could end up costing you in the long run. Your hobby isn't running anywhere any time soon :)

As luck would have it, I just found a brand new Vision Pro!

UPS came and took the broken D7700 away, about an hour ago.
