Portable Karaoke Machine
« on: October 19, 2009, 09:15:16 am »
I've been out of the loop for a while but its time to post a few of the projects I have knocked up over the last couple of years, first up is a portable karaoke machine that I made in response to a request from a friend.

A good few years ago I made a portable arcade machine but for a laugh put a small karaoke package on it, the portable plugged into a TV and the intention was to use it for dual player gaming however what actually happened was that no-one wanted to play the games they wanted to sing. Anyway I got sick of touting it around and having to fumble with different TV's etc I decided that as it was now possible to get LCD screens so cheaply that i would put it all in one package and this is what I came up with.

Some details on the various items in there then some more photo's
The PC
Windows XP
2Ghz A64 CPU
Winfast mobo with onboard graphics
512mb RAM
60GB HDD
250W Micro PSU
Wireless handheld trackball
USB handheld trackball as spare
Foldable keyboard
15" Sony Monitor

Audio
Hacked Sanyo mini hifi
Nissan Micra Speakers
Twin Singstar Microphones

The case is built using 8mm plywood to keep the weight down.

Running Karafun which is an excellent little software package.

The rear of the case - Needs good airflow hence 2 fans and grilles, speaker jacks and slot at top for volume.
The lid folds back and contains the mics, speakers and controllers when not in use. The small slider is for access to the volume control.

The internals - Hifi guts at the top and PC at the bottom.
With the audio being provided by an old Hifi the sound is of a decent quality and plenty loud enough.

The control panel from the old stereo and the hacked wifi receiver for the wireless trackball.

Total weight is probably around 10Kg and it takes about 5 minutes to get up and running, I've messed with having a built in webcam but that didn't turn out to well. I am also having a look at adding a second smaller screen for song selection and having the main screen for the lyrics but thats for a later date. I still can't sing though.

what karaoke software are you running?
Is it a freebee or paid sw.
I would like to do karaoke on my cab It would be fun, as my daughter loves to sing!

Never mind
I reread your post more carefully and saw it.

Looks like a good conversion since you were not getting use out of it for gaming.    :applaud: :applaud:
