video card bios not updating
« on: October 12, 2009, 03:14:09 am »
I have an nvidia 6200. Apparently, many NV43 A2s are disabled 6600s. Powerstrip says it's a version A2.  Via nvflash I've saved the current image, but it won't load the 6600gt image; it says error reading file. (I can't for the life of me find a regular 6600 image). Another one it tries to load but says back checksum, wrong gpu - so I guess that one would work if I had a 6600GT.....

Also, powerstrip says there's 257mb of memory available. Of course Windows only reports 128.  ??

I have a 6200 A-LE and Windows shows 256MB for it just fine. (I don't know how many variations of the 6200 there are)
Obviously my bios version is different from yours too. (5.44.02.45.01)

In Powerstrip it says "System Memory"...... so what is it actually looking at ?
I have conflicting info too, just opposite of yours.

No....yours is showing about the same between PS and Win. That upper box in PS is for AGP, which you obviously have, and I don't.

Haven't gotten round to trying/have forgotten to try, but have been wondering: does this kind of thing require one doing it in safe mode? Or is it just impossible while in Windows?  Maybe I should be doing it with a floppy from the DOS-like environment via a repair disc?
