LEDBlinky MAME And MAMEWAH
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:52:38 pm »
Hello All!  I used an old cabinet, gutted it and have lots of software and hardware in the cabinet now.  I am using almost exclusively Ultimarc hardware for the CP.
Here is the small glitch I am having.  My CP is a two player setup with seven buttons each.  I cannot get LEDBlinky to light up any more than four buttons on the player 2 side of the CP.  I set LEDBlinky on debug mode and below is the suspect output.  I'm not sure who is the culprit, but I even went in and set the last three buttons in MAME.  Any help would be great!!

MAMEWAH V.1.68
MAME V.0134b
LEDBlinky V.3.8.0.1

So, LEDBlinky is not getting passed the correct KEYCODE.  Not sure if it's in MAME or LEDBlinky...

Thank you all for keeping the scene alive!!!

What you could try is to delete the default controls under the mame controls in the control editor
then press new and make the control scheme yourself save it and test it

Thank you NJay for your quick response.
After I first looked at the debug.log for LEDBlinky, that's exactly what I did.  Ran it again with the same results.  So I created the default.cfg file so it looks exactly like the Player 1 settings.  The output is identical either way.  I am sure MAME is the culprit, but the output is the is the same even when I am using a different emulator and want to light the buttons.

why would you manually create the default.cfg?

do you not use the controls editor tool?
also do not forget to make a default layout file for your CP
just open the animation editor and it should ask you if you made this

Mame doesn't provide any default keycodes for P2 buttons 4,5,6, etc. It's hard to tell what your problem is without the entire log - I need to see your Device/Port Input values. Are you using a keyboard encoder (like an IPac) or joystick encoder (like a GPWiz)?

You may have been on the right track with the default.cfg file - but if the buttons are working in the game then they must have some input value (keyboard or joystick) and blinky should have picked it up. Also, I wouldn't manually edit the default.cfg - use the Mame ui; 'Inputs for All Games'.

How about just email me the debug.zip file and I'll check it out. Also include your default.cfg file.

njay: thanks for helping out here :)

arzoo,
First and foremost, I would like to personally thank you for all the work you have done on LEDBlinky and all the help you have offered those of us that need help!
I am an old dos/linux guy, so CLI is often easier for me to edit files.  I did use the Mame UI to create the file, but I wanted to specify the contents so they exactly matched what was on the P1 settings.
I am using an IPac keyboard encoder, an OptiPac for the spinner and trac-ball and two PacDrive boards for all the button lights.
I have all the emulators working perfectly, all the roms filtered, all the hardware working, just can't get these three buttons to light.  I have confirmed that the buttons are working in Mame, I started Night Warrior (a six button) in two player mode and all 12 buttons (player 1 & 2) work correctly, but buttons 5 & 6 on the player 2 side did not light.
As a side note, If I set these buttons in the default always active, they still will not come on.  In an animation and testing the lights, they are correct and work correctly.

Again, thank you for all you do!!

*** FIXED Thanks to ARZOO!!!  ***

His reply:

Hey Ron,
Very simple fix – in your LEDBlinky config on the mame tab you have the mame cfg folder set as “C:\Emulation\mame”. Change it to the actual cfg folder:
C:\Emulation\mame\cfg
Blinky wasn’t lighting the buttons because it never loaded the default.cfg file!

Definitely post your response and the fix to the forum thread if you wish.

Cheers,

Thank you agian Arzoo and NJay for your help!

Not sure where to post them, but here are some pics.  I have done much more work to it since then.  I'll get some updated pics uploaded.
