anyone imported a UK region Blu ray for the USA?
« on: September 29, 2009, 03:24:33 pm »
soo I am sure some of you have seen this amazing movie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_(film) .

I saw it at a small indie style movie theater and just loved it, amazon.com does not have an official release date as of it, but it drops nov 16th in the UK and is available for pre-order on amazon.co.uk.

Now I know I will end up paying a pretty penny for shipping over here to the USA, and I dont mind the currency difference, but I am hesitant about dropping approx $40 USD for a movie that ends up being a coaster because it wont play on my PS3.

I know the region restrictions are a little more lax than they were as far as dvds are concerned, just wanting input if anyone has had any experience importing a non region USA dvd to the states?

Unfortunately, blu ray's are a mixmatch when it comes to region restrictions. It usually depends on the studio distributing the disc, I seem to remember Fox blu-ray's being very strict on regions. Some however will play on all.

Your best bet is to wait until it comes out, someone will end up testing it and finding out what the restrictions are. There are a few forums dedicated to it I used to use, as my PS3 is USA even though I'm in the UK. Google should turn them up, try blu ray region compatability or something as a search term.

Personally I only ever buy blu-ray's which work on both regions (A + B), as I have a UK PS3 in the living room :-\ I have a sizeable library of them but there are some good titles which are region dependent, like the Ice Age series..

http://regionfreemovies.com/

Pretty nice site to check the region lock on Blu Ray movies.
