Mame version for Arcade VGA etc
« on: September 27, 2009, 10:13:50 am »
Hi all,

I'm currently retrofitting a cabinet for Mame. I have  a WG 7000 series monitor (K7191, 19", P447 PCB), a PCI-E ArcadeVGA card, 2.6Ghz Athlon X2, 1Gb DDR2 800 ram on an MSI mainboard.

The version of Mame I'm trying to use is Mame32 V0.36.0 which I realise is quite old.

My problem lies with getting smooth framerates on the WG monitor. I have been using QuickRes to closely match game resolutions, have configured Mame with the recommended settings as per the ArcadeVGA site (DirectDraw, hardware stretch, switch resolution etc) but if I run games 'throttled', the video is jerky. If I remove 'throttling', the games run at 1000% speed + , way too fast....

I've found a thread on here that goes some way to describing the same issues that I'm experiencing although the suggestions therein have so far been unable to resolve my issue. I did read something about older builds of Mame having better support for driving an authentic arcade monitor.

Therefore, my question is - should I be looking for a different Mame build to better suit my setup, or I'm I missing something else, more obvious (quite likely!) that will resolve this issue.

I'd appreciate it if anyone who has a similar setup and has been through these issues could guide me with some advice.

Thanks in advance!

Slarti

PS. I've been using Mame and other emulators for 10 years or so - I've only now managed to get around to building my own cab :)

Ok, got this working now. Using MameUI (2008 version) and not running roms from DVD sorted this. I was only running the roms from DVD as a temporary thing while I was testing stuff - only clicked today that access time to the roms on DVD from Mame may impact on speed!

Happy now!
