Announcing: RISE & RUIN free online game
« on: September 25, 2009, 06:43:43 pm »
Are you ready for a little R & R ?

I'm pleased to announce a new indie online game that my partners and I, with the help of Telefilm Canada, have been working on for the last couple years.

Here is some "marketese"  :

Rise & Ruin is an entirely new twist on the trading card game (TCG) genre. Players level up their own customized avatar while assembling decks from an ever-growing pool of powerful attack, defense, magic, and specialty cards. Thrilling, cinematic 3D battles take place directly in a web browser allowing for fast and accessible game play.

We've actually been in Open Beta for just over 2 months now. The game is FREE to play as much as you want, and works right in your browser. It requires a small 3D plugin installation, and Adobe Flash player. You can create your own character, chat with other players, duel with them (there's no single player at the moment), level up your skills (kinda RPG like), trade cards with other players, etc...

Since we are new, our chat/battle rooms are sometimes empty. Check out our event schedule for special events where you can meet people, battle them, participate in special challenges and win new cards and skill points:

Schedule of Events: http://riseandruin.com/events

Our Forums: http://riseandruin.com/community/forums

Known bugs and workarounds: http://riseandruin.com/forum/26

We sell in-game credits which can be used to buy card packs (you get a free newbie pack with every account). Help support and shape an indie production! We are continually updating and improving the experience and trying to fix up bugs.

I moderate the chat on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30pm (EST) to 10:pm under the name "GM Spore".  Please come say hello!  Or check out Friday Night Fights event at 7:30pm on Friday!

---------------------------

Troubleshooting Notes:
- Some Firefox users need to restart the browser after the first install.
- Some, in Vista, must use "run as administrator" to make it work in Firefox
- IE is pretty much no problem
- Windows 7 is hit n miss (its not a finished OS people!!!)
- Some claim it works in Safari and Chrome
- It works in Mac, but you can't battle! Won't work!
- The main client is about 4 mb. After that, it loads 20 to 30 mb of game media in the background, so don't just try to jump right into battle. Check out the other features, chat to players... Once all loaded, the media is cached and won't require a reload, even if you clear your browser cache.

ENJOY!  :)

I can't get it to work in Firefox or IE.  When I use IE, it comes up with an error saying installation error, and something about direct input.

Uninstalled the plugin, reinstalled, fixed that part, now it sits on the character select screen and there's the circle going around.

Use ie. ;)

That's a disqualifying factor for me.  I only use IE when necessary.

I just saw in the FAQ it doesn't work with Windows 7.  Boo, I wanted to try it.

Hey, at least some of us tried it.  I registered and tried to start it 5 times.  Result:  5 complete browser crashes.   :-\

I tried it.

On my first round I joined a server where, apparently, I was supposed to only use hand-to-hand combat cards or something. Anyway, I had battle axes and spears so I owned my enemy.

Pretty neat.

What exactly did you work on for the game, RayB?

IE and legacy operating systems only?  This game is clearly full of win.
It works in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE.
It works in XP, Vista. Both current OS's. Windows 7 isnt out yet, so F*** off PBJ.

Flip: I'm a partner, Creative Director, Flash programmer, created the 3D worlds, some weaponry, directed the character art design and creation, co-produced, co-designed... etc, etc. Lots of hats. ;-)

Chad: PM me your specs, its *really* weird youre getting browser crashes. The 3D plugin is really robust (been out and refined over last 10 years). The other plugin is just Flash.

NO MORE!!
