Author Topic: Arcade Emulator Diffrences/ all questions solved...thanks (Read 4121 times)

i've noticed multiple arcade emulators other then MAME, such as RAINE, NEORAGEX, FinalBurn, Nebula, & Modeler, Zinc/Impact, Nebula 2.0[?].

and i do understand that some support games that others do not.
could anyone tell me, or link me to a site that tells what roms work with these
emu's that are not supported by Mame, and which ones are actually even any good
and worth trying? any helps appreciated and im sure other new ppl have also wondered this
also any other emus i'v missed or forgoten would also be great.

modeler is outdated as is raine.... all of the games they offer are in mame now with perfect to near perfect emulation...

NeorageX is totally outdated.... you have to hack it and use special versions of the roms to run newer neogeo games on it.

FinalBurn has a handful of games that mame won't run yet, but as the emulation on those games is very much incomplete, again it's probably not worth it anymore.

Nebula will give a performance boost on really slow machines, other than that, there isn't any reason to use it over mame.

emulation on impact is incomplete and zinc does a better job, and this is why it was removed from it's homepage. Don't use it.

Zinc is the only one out of the ones you mentioned that's worth using. The games it supports are just now being added to the mame source as testdrivers. Even when the games are fully supported, they will probably be ungodly slow on the average system due to mame's poor 3d support.

Star Sweep was added to mame last version (the zinc game that uses the least resources) and on my machine it runs at a whopping 30 fps, even though the sound drivers aren't implemented yet. When sound is added to the driver I expect the framerate to be cut in half. Now keep in mind this game is 2d and most zinc games are 3d. That should give you an idea of the slowness of the other games. (I'm guessing they will run at about the same speed as the crusin games.)

Just another quick noobie question,

I got a CD from a friend which has a quite a few Neo Geo games on it, and is supplied with Neo Rage X. Now I understand this is outdated emulator, but it seems to work fine for me so I decided i'd stick with it. However, I haven't been able to get it running in MAMEWAH, which I think is due to it's own frontend system.

I tried Kawak's, the other CPS/Neo Geo emulator, but alas, it can't run the roms that were on the NeoRageX game, and the same goes for MAME. I'm guessing these are older dumps that aren't compatible right?

Any reccomendations for other Neo Geo emulators that might work in MAMEWAH? And will I need to re-find all those roms online?

(Sorry, don't want to divert from the topic too much, I just thought I may as well save making another thread)

Nebula... it's basically a modern version of neorageX with command line support.... in all honesty though, I would reccomend mame.

i heard kof2002 and metal slug 4 were supported in neorage x supposedly but the
main reason i want to use neorage x is in mamewah i want my neogeo roms seperate
from mame roms. but now that i hear it doesnt load from mamewah then that sucks =(

16 pages of 10 + 1 page of 2 = 162 games (including clones). Mame plays 'em perfectly.

You can set MAME up as two seperate emulators in mamewah using seperate ROM directories. I use this method to seperate my fighters from, my platforms, etc.. (have 9 instances of MAME).

Don't think you can set it to play as cartridge per say. But you can set the roms up as free play through thier DIP switches...not what you ask though--sorry!

Don't know about Neoragex and Howard's wrapper..haven't played with that--I'll try it out or you could try it out and let us know...either way.

thanks i tried it out, but honestly i lack knowlege and feel like a dumby trying to us it.
im so lost with that wrapper i cant even start to explain it. then again im not very old and didnt
get much experience in command line operations and such.

if anyone could help out in getting it running NeoRageX that would be wonderful

Looked at it and not gonna work Neoragex = GUI only as far as I can tell.

Howard mentioned Nebula (tho he didn't recomend it). I looked at that and it will work and you can run your games in console mode. You can run it straight from MAMEwah--no wrapper required. Get it here:

Also I would like to add that all of the new neogeo drivers are included in mame. You've just gotta roll your own and uncomment them in the gamelist.

And my wrapper won't work in neoragex because neorage doesn't have any keyboard shortcuts or command line options what-so-ever. It's mouse driven, and I'm not sick enough to make a mouse movement simulator.

Stick to nebula like I originally suggested. (Yes, spaced, look back I did suggest it.

) I know your are stuck on neorage, but in all honesty it's pathetically outdated. Nobody in their right mind should use neoragex at this point, especially if you intend to run the newer neogeo games as you need hacked versions of the roms, which play funny imho.

ya i actually got kof2002, mslug4, lotd running on mame32 now so im kind of happy but i'd rather have the console mode and not arcade mode more then have these work, so i may try nebula out.

also is it alright to post questions about non official supported roms? i dont want to cause any trouble.
cause i found a whole load of testdrivers/game that i cant get running for mame and i dont want to ask
about them and get in trouble.

In all honesty, it's usually nothing. Have no clue why he's hung up on console mode. Usually all it does is remove the need to insert quarters.

i know its not a huge diffrence and its not a major issue. i would just Like to be able
to run the neogeo roms apart from mame as console just for the heck of it to go along with
the other consoles. no real reason, altho some games you can get an option menu, or pic diffrent
fighting mode and such, but its usually nothing major. im not really "hung up on it" just would like
to get it in that mode.

Unfortunately, for me Nebula doesn't work either

I already tried MAME, and Nebula... and although they both run games correctly, the problem is they don't run the games that are on the CD I was given correctly.... Perhaps this is because they are old dumps, or maybe it's because they've been renamed?

Does anyone have any idea on how to make MAME/Nebula register these games? Because seemingly Neo Rage X is the only emulator which can..

those are the special hacked/old versions of the roms that i mentioned. You need to get the official roms used in mame. Sorry
