Monitor flicker and problems with red?
« on: September 12, 2009, 06:16:27 pm »
I have J-PAC connecting my PC and a Super Neo Candy Cab 29. My video card is an Nvidia 7950GT, running at 720x480 with Soft 15khz and Quickres.

I've noticed that there seems to be a weird tint to the color on the monitor. When playing Street Fighter 4, I played around with the monitor RGB dials next to the joystick and realized that dialing the red down or up didn't affect anything. Also noticed that red didn't seem to come through. Anything that was supposed to come up red was kinda dark and hard to see.

I jiggled the monitor connection on the J-PAC and it seemed to get the red back temporarily so I don't think it's a problem with the monitor, but I could be wrong? Tried it again today and it didn't seem to work, the red would flash on for half a sec before going back. Any thoughts?

Also noticed the monitor flickering in-between the character selection screen and the fight beginning. What I mean by flickering, is that the monitor seems to go dark then it's like it was turned back on if that makes any sense? I'm not sure if it's the video card/driver combination I'm using or the monitor?

Thinking of maybe updating the video card drivers and changing out the vid card to something else. Not sure what to do beyond that though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Took a bit of time to try and troubleshoot it a bit more. Seems the the colors seem to sort itself out when I lightly rotate the j-pac and video cable in opposite directions. Leads me to believe that there is something wrong with either the J-Pac or the video cable that came with it.

Still have that flickering problem though when going from the character selections screen to fighting in Street Fighter 4. Also noticeable when going back to the title screen. It's looks like the monitor turns off then back on after a split second. Any thoughts on this one?

It sounds like there's a connection issue.  Check the pin on the JAMMA harness to make sure it's making good contact with the JPAC.

Unless it's doing it when you're only moving the video cable, that would sound to me like an issue with that cable.  Could be anything from a bad cable to a broken solder joint on the connector.

Thanks for the input! Tried switching out the cable and the problem remained so it looks like it might be the JPAC connection. Got in touch with Andy over at Ultimarc to try and figure this out.

Check the solder joints on the pins where the video cable plugs into the monitor.
Just because you wiggle one end doesn't mean it's not necessarily effecting the other end.
Worth checking.....
