Must have PS2 and Xbox games for a cab
« on: September 04, 2009, 01:07:01 pm »
Saw a similar post for Dreamcast and PS1. Considering a PS2 and Xbox can be used in a cab with the arcade controls wired to the consoles, and both have have big (somewhat) HDs connected, what would be the "must have" games that should be on the HDs for use on a cab? What would be games to stay away from when using cab controls?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

You can hook up really big hard drives if you know how.

Your after digital pad or D-pad type controlled games.

the problemwith xbox is most of their games are first person shooters that require the analog thumbsticks.

it also depends on how much your putting in your control panel and what type of setup your going to use.

it is possible to get the analog thumbstick function through a joystick but it would cost at least another $100.00 just for the right joysticks as the run of the mill digital joystick are not going to do it.

most if not all of the fighters use the D-pad like the tekken soul caliburs Mortal kombats stuff like that but the ps2 and xbox's were pretty limted to normal run of the mill arcade controls becuase most games used the D-pad as an inventory swap weapon change etc. function.

Everyone talks about using Guncon 2's on PC for MAME, but you'll find the Guncon 2 works a lot better on a real PS2.

So add Time Crisis 2, Time Crisis 3, Crisis Zone, Vampire Night, and Ninja Assault to that list.  As the Guncon's are USB so they can be plugged in seperate from your control panel.

The PS2 also has some classic Sega driving game ports such as Crazy Taxi, 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker, King Of Route 66 and a downgraded port of Outrun 2 SP in 'Outron 2006'.

There's also pinball in the form of Pinball Hall Of Fame both Gottlieb and Williams.

Not all PS2 arcade style fun are fighting games. :)

Xbox:

DOA 1, 2 & 3
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Capcom vs SNK 2
Street Fighter Anniversary
NHL Hitz 20-03
NFL Blitz 20-03
Mortal Kombat Dark Alliance
Mortal Kombat Deception
Guilty Gear X2 # Reload
House of the Dead 3 (also includes HotD2)
Soul Calibur 2
Tetris Worlds
Pure Pinball
Ultimate Pinball
LEGO Star Wars
LEGO Star Wars 2
Trivial Pursuit
Top Spin Tennis

Also, the Xbox is the most versatile console system to ever be released as far as homebrew apps go.

There is very solid arcade and console emulation on the Xbox as well, which vastly increases the library of games accessible.

I've never looked into placing my PS2 into my cab, so I haven't done any research into the games compatible with.

I do want to mention that, at least on Xbox, the Pinball Hall of Fame collections are not actually arcade cab friendly. They require the use of the right analog stick for the ball plunger. :(

Yeah and the lack of remapping the controlls is iffy too.  I've been wondering if the Xbox 360/PS3 ports will feature remapping.

I have pondered making a 'Pinball Controller' for PS2.  While most of it would be easy, the problem would come with bumping the table.  I figure some sorta two axis accelarometer mapped to a dualshock?  That'd be tricky as hell.

Here is what I got going for pinball. I am using my SFAE arcade stick with six axis and axis adapter. Pinball buttons on the sides. X button plunger on back works great for Zen pinball. Williams collection for the PS3 same problem need access to the analog sticks. Solutions one is wiring the pots which I think involves adding a resistor and 4 wires to the pcb per axis. Next a physical mod like stealth mounting the controller by routing out a space from underneath and having two holes for the sticks to protrude from. Next a internal physical mod build a little shelf on the inside of the box with the pcb oriented towards the back of the box. Drill two holes in the back of the box. Insert two carbon fiber rods and attach them to the joysticks with linkage hardware from remote control planes. Put some sort of stoppers on the inside and out to rods to control the range and attach handles to the ends to pull or push. Right side plunger pull push, left side I just use push up as a nudge button. Next option is the ghetto mount the sucker so you can get to the stick from underneath so I can play this damn game now and figure it out later. Thinking probably internal physical mod for both SFAE sticks. My 2 cents been thinking about it a bit lately. Williams Pinball is awesome on the modded SFAEs by the way. I know you are talking about xbox and ps2 but the problem is similar.
