New WG9800 problem
« on: September 02, 2009, 06:43:32 am »
Well I just got my new monitor installed and right out of the box there was an issue. In the upper left hand corner there is a reddish hugh that is there all the time when the monitor is on. The only exception is when there is a black screen. Is this something that I can fix or did Wells send me a piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---?

have you tried to access the degauss on the on screen menu?

alright well I found out how to degaus the monitor(took me awhile) and now the colors are in different places than before. Before it was just redness in the upper left hand corner. Now there is green in the upper right hand corner and a slight bit of red in the bottom left but the original red disapeared. Do I keep doing this until it get it right or is there something else wrong?

Could be the monitor's direction. I've seen a 45-degree lateral rotation fix this. Not the best news, but there it is.

if you have a seperate degauss switch hold it down until it clears the problem-about 5 seconds

what do you mean separate degauss switch? By rotating it lateraly wouldnt just turning the entire cabinet in a different direction do this? I dont quite understand how this would help. Maybe I dont know the deffiniton of lateral  :P

a crt using electromagnetic deflection is sensitive to external magnetic fields .

to illustrate this . turn any operating crt tv on its side. observe pic . return to normal position , observe pic
the effect  is caused by interaction with planetary magnetic field .

if the crt has encountered a stray field of sufficient strength,  a manual deguassing may be required to neutralize the effect

Monitor, cab - same thing. Hadn't seen it till recently, but a while ago saw it described here as the monitor being affected by the Earth's magnetic lines of force.

Definately sound like  interference of some kind
how close and where is your speaker / speakers mounted in relation to the monitor.
Could be the magnet causing the issues you describe.
Remove the speaker completely and try to degauss again, see what it does.

also what was mention already might work as well. lateral means  if the cab is facing south, turn it so it faces west and see what happens.

Alright, well I just finished up all of my finals and I am back at home to try and resolve this monitor problem. I rotated the cabinet 270 degrees and all of the red and green nearly disappeared as I was rotating it. The green is completely gone but there is still a small red line down the left hand side. When I rotate the cabinet slightly to the left more red shows up, and when I rotate it to the right green starts to show. Is there any way to make this rotation permanent without leaving the cabinet facing in this direction?

I am going to go remove the speakers as well and try it again but since rotating it seemed to do the trick I figured the speakers were not the problem.
