Black screen when loading a ROM
« on: September 01, 2009, 02:47:58 pm »
I've been trying to setup my MAME machine and am having a problem.  I'm using the latest MAME build with a Maximus Arcade frontend.  A lot of the games I have load fine, but others do this weird flicker of the screen to where I can see my desktop and then the screen goes completely black.  A solution I found for this was to put the neogeo BIOS in my roms folder.  This may have fixed some but did not fix all.  Is there another BIOS I need in my roms folder or is this a setting of some sort?  Thanks.

Sounds like you may not have the correct romset for your MAME version.

Search maws resource type for "BIOS".  You'll get two pages of answers.

Other way is to search Maws for the game's you're having problems.  Under the gaame's screen shot, you might see "BIOS" followed with the needed bios name, or "Parent" with the needed parent.  Also, further down you'll see "last change(s)" followed wiht the versions that something in the rom set changed.
